Here’s a hat I actually forgot I had. It came as part of a deal on a hat I was actively after. Given the generic-ness of the logo and other text, it’s hard to find much of anything about it. The felt is actually quite nice... I’m not a fan of deep teardrops like this so I’ll have to try a diamond or something to get some height out of it I guess.

Sorry I missed this one. Looks to be in great condition. My guess is later 1950s. I will have to see if I can find who had the "Manhattan" trademark. It could be a distributor like F.W. Schneider.
I have a hat branded Manhattan. I don't think I ever posted it (it's in an awful state). Had to remove the edge stitching and replace the ribbon.

Stefan, I couldn't find anything on "Windsor" but I think it might have been Mayser Milz that made some of them. That could also be the case with the "Manhattan" trademark.

Could be a coincidence, but the hat I mentioned that I was actually after where the Manhattan came with it - that was my gray Windsor that is just like yours.... with the cool pleated ribbon-work.

Yes I remember your fantastic "Windsor". The online German trademark search doesn't come up with any hat related hits for "Windsor". The problem is that it could have been a distributor that owned the trademark and they are no longer in business. I believe only companies that are still in business are listed but I could be wrong about that.

I checked German Trademark online search again and nothing on "Windsor" and "Manhattan". If I go back to the Bad Homburg Museum I will check their 1950s library documents more closely. I didn't look close at them because I was focused on the older library documents.

Thank you for the posting the photos. There is no company mark on the paper label. It's definitely later so my guess would be 1990s Gubener Hüte GmbH.

Thank you for the information. It’s a rather unremarkable hat that I’ll be passing on. If it was a DDR hat or something interesting it keep it for its historical value, but a 1990s entry level hat isn’t what I’m after. No regrets; all part of learning and now I know.

Thanks again,
Brent

Somewhere along the line the quality of the DDR hats took a real nosedive and they ended up with rather crude hats. I made a fez out of one I bought with no regrets. Now there's a thought, Brent.

It's highly possible this hat is post DDR. Actually there are some nice (for the time period) Gubener hats that came out later. I will post photos of one when I get a chance.
