Indeed Steve, you're right. I forgot the Name, lol.
Yes it's VEB Hutwerke Guben. They made hats into the 1990s (privatized but closed shop shortly there after).
Did Guben take over other factories ?
I have hats that are marked with that G then on the round paper size label some say Luckenwalder and other say hutwerke guben, then I've got some that say Betrieb Guben DDR
I think the mark on the Black Velour is English but that doesn't mean it wasn't a German maker.
Yes, English-ish syle coat of arms.....no writing on it (Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense and Dieux Et Mon Droit is missing for the Royal Coat of arms ... austriche plumes usually stand for Prince of Wales).... rudimentary horn of the uniquehorn .... somehow strange. Can be whatever!
Spot on, the model is Malente (or Malenie?) Garant, followed by Farbe 278 and Konte Nr 051311. Yes, I'll put a little felt in there, it doesn't need much.Nice pick up! Yes it's fairly recent. If you check behind the sweatband at the rear it should have a paper label with the model name and size. I am thinking it might be a City Finale. You can put a spacer behind the sweatband. I would use felt as a spacer rather than foam. You don't want to deform the sweatband.
Pardon the off topic bump... I don't have enough depth in my hat collection to post often enough on this great thread. Here is a nod to my early 20th century roots (Lemberg) with a sachertorte I made for the Jewish New Year.
