Stefan, Thank you! Thanks for this piece of history, Steve. Don't think I've read it before. I've come across an awful lot of their hats over the years.

Both are my size so with no doubts I take both.On the right J. Hückel´s Söhne (JHS) Zephyr Seal Velour, size 7 3/8 (late 1930s) vs. on the left TONAK Formely Hückel Zephyr Seal Velour, size 7 3/8 (late 1940s early 1950s).
Daniele, Thank you! I can't find either hat. Both are my size so with no doubts I take both.
Steve I think only you have the technical competence and experience, having a vast collection of velour, to determine the quality.
However, I repeat, in the uncertainty I take both of them
Super Bowler, Steve. Great melon shape. My feeling is it's pre WW II. The overall shape, liner, and white sweat with that great inner binding say pre war to me. Perhaps a clue is in the "Facon 1938", or maybe that's fooling me.C. Messmer Wien, 59 cm possibly late 1940s. The felt on this hat is fantastic. Also the contrasting black liner and white sweatband in striking. It appears to be have been made by Hutproduktiv Wien (see below). I couldn't find anything on C. Messmer Wien production capabilities.
Based on the paper label the hat was made by Hutproduktiv Wien. The label is in French because Hutproduktiv Wien was located in District XIV which was under French control after WWII.. Here is another example.

Thanks, Steve. I like that we've found quite a few of these and none of them are exactly the same.Stefan, Great find! I really like the bow width.
Daniele, Sorry about the size. That is a fantastic looking Surperbe. My guess is later 1950s. Mayser's sometimes have wind cords. The earlier ones just have loops and no buttons. I have two pre 1940 Echter Borsalinos with loop wind cords.A magnificent example of German headwear

Echter Mayser "Superbe" size 58 or 7 1/4 in the United States. Sometimes the hats of Central Europe of this size are perfect for my head, but this is a tight 58

It has a felt color and a very interesting and classic brim+ribbon combo and finishes for Mayser, Huckel and other brands of those producers with the addition of wind cord, rare to find in hats sold in Europe. Sometimes it happens for those distributed in Germany, I remember having a Borsalino with that thing

The measurements are as follows: the crown is about 11 cm. bashed, the brim is 6.5 centimeters and the ribbon is 3 centimeters

It has a small flaw: that of having the lining detached for at least 50% of its circumference, for the rest it is perfect. It was sold in Bremen - Carl Sick shop

This is the paper label that certainly will be much more decipherable by Steve who is the leading expert on these European productions

What I really like about this hat is the change in color of the felt in different light conditions and, above all, its proportionate profile
Too bad it is a hat that will have to find an home

Daniele, Thank you! I have a large back load of information I need to post.Grazie Steve!
Your help for Central European hats is essential. The wind cord has a button in the same color as the ribbon. Super finish!
Yes.....we want to see it!!!Daniele, Thank you! I have a large back load of information I need to post.
Mark, I look forward to your postings.Yes.....we want to see it!!!
(for the record..I have a large back-load too....including many catalogs and even a Hat Life Annual from 1944)
We just need more time.........
Excellent find, Mark. It actually says, "My heart's desire is to have a new hat." Obviously one from the F. Böttcher hat store in Zurich. A wonderful little stamp. Here is a 1920's??? advertising stamp. Perhaps Steve you can tell me more? My understanding is it says: "My heart's desire is to have a new hat from Habin". Sounds like a LOT of us here!!!!! View attachment 202096
