J. Hückel´s Söhne "Alpha - Seal Velour", French Point 4 probably mid 1930s. The black Velour felt (very difficult to photograph, absorbs light) is really fantastic (perfect condition) with a beautiful Alpha quality Seal Velour finish. This hat came from the same seller as the J.Hückel´s Söhne "Paltin" and most likely belonged to the same original owner. It also came with an original Hückel box.

The following photographed really shows the quality of the Alpha quality Seal Velour (close sheared with high gloss).

Karl, Steve, Thanks! It's very hard to photograph these black JHS Seal Velours. The the right side of the front view photo shows the effect the best. There is no substitute to having them in hand.

O wow! Same as what Karl said (sorry, Karl; didn't see that comment when I said the same about Steve's other find). Makes me want to fetch and wear my velours hats right away.

I'd say that's not a hat, but a work of art. Wearable art too: at that size it might actually fit me. Amzing find, Steve. Congrats. It's a pleasure just to look at it.

Stefan, Thanks! I will have to measure inside front to back (it's pretty small). You really have to have it in hand to appreciate the quality of the Velour. Daniele has a JHS "Platin" (different color) that I found near Vienna so he can attest to the hand + light effect.

I feel like a lucky man.
JHS "Platin" Steve gave me is in a special position in my collection.
Austrian velour are incredible in every way, no one match them.
JHS "Alpha Seal - Velour" is another gem in the Steve coffer

No substitute at all. Your photos paint a thousand words, Steve, but we'd so love to feel those hats in our hands. Not to mention our heads [emoji5]

Daniele, Thanks! I was surprised when I saw this "Platin" because they are truly rare (I have only seen two). I had no idea of the size (turned out to be tiny) but jumped right on it.

Some hats are made to wear, others are just right for the collection.

Sandmann Wien XV, measures 58cm, Crown 6 inches, Brim Curled 2 inches maybe 1930s. I believe it's a multi color Wool or a Wool - Fur blend. The felt is really fantastic (colors, finish, hand) most likely a Flamand. It doesn't have any paper label and I believe it had a crown patch at one time. Heinrich Sandmann was Chairman of the Austrian and Vienna Hat Makers associations (as of 1926) but I haven't been able to find any other details. This hat is part one of a two Sandmann Wien XV find. I was contacted by the seller (from Vienna who I have purchased a number of hats from in the past) during by trip so I was able to pick up the hats along the way.

Again, a wonderful hat, Steve. Heather felt, curled brim, nice wide ribbon; what's not to like? Alas people don't contact me to come along and pick up their hats...
