Great looking Homburg! It's actually Rockel (Alsfeld) and not Röckel so Echter.

I think it's post WWII based on construction (liner, sweatband). It has a really great form and I really like the medium width ribbon (not as common on Homburgs).

Good find, Fastuni. If you find a fedora in that size (or bigger...which is unlikely) please write me a PM. I don't think a homburg would work with my usual style (?)

Thanks! That is great that Garrett got the smaller size old Mayser Velour. I usually only buy in my size range (58cm) but will make an exception for an old Velour like the Mayser. They are very special / rare and need to be preserved. If you find any I am always interested!

Fantastic find (hat + case)! Is it a "Durit"? I can't make it out from the photos. Also what size?

Yes, I believe its the same model hat, the one sent your way was made for the Italian market though. I think this ones a size 58 too. It's marked as 1799 Durit.

I'm considering sending it to Bob at Black Sheep, that velour homburg you posted is without a doubt one of the coolest hats i've seen pop up on here. I was wondering if Bob could bind the brim on this one and reflange it similar proportions.

That is Garrett not me. Garrett's old JHS Velour with the Homburg shape is all original and most likely from the late 19th Century. I wouldn't recommend modifying your Durit because it is all original and appears to be in very good condition.

I am ok with refurbs but not with old pre WWII hats that have all the original parts and are in good condition.

Garrett's late 19th Century JHS Velour is a museum piece. I didn't see anything like it at the Novy Jicin museum. It's possible we might see something similar but I am not betting on it.

There are only a few hats I have coveted dearly in the 8 years I've been on this forum - (Alan's Hawes Von Gal, Steve's JHS Superior Crystal and RLK'S pre-WW1 JHS velour). The recent 19th century JHS Loutre is the rarest hat I've come across. With the original box (what's left of it) makes it that much sweeter. I was one of the bidders on RLK's pre-WW1 JHS (found on page 3 of this thread) but couldn't beat the $900+ winning bid. In the 3 years since that auction, I've not seen one pre-WW1 JHS soft felt until the Loutre. Fortunately, it had only been listed for 2 hours and had 5 views before I used the BIN. Had I waited to pounce I'm sure Steve, Alan, Josh, Robert or Bill would be brushing it daily Probably the best hat purchase I've had and am fortunate to be the present guardian. If and when the time comes to pass it along I will likely send it to Steve or the Novy Jicin museum.

Perseverance! There will inevitably be another super rare one at some point - just keep your eyes peeled and the treasures will eventually appear.

Yes it will happen again but your old JHS Velour will be hard to top. For me it would be an Edward VII era PH. Möckel Homburg. It's amazing that the two oldest JHS soft felts here at the FL came from American Ebay. Robert's was actually made for the American market. I have no idea how Garrett's ended up here (Garrett, Any idea?) from Silesia.

The seller frequents a flea market in Dayton, Ohio and picked it up from a woman who claimed her father owned it. I'm not sure when it came across the pond but am glad it did.

Another question I've been pondering - the hat is of high quality compared to any standard but at what price point was it originally sold? Would a sporty (for the time period) model such as this have been in the middle of the JHS hierarchy or was it high up there? Perhaps low? Etc.
