Great find! I haven't seen one with a feather band. Is it original to the hat? I also do not recall seeing a vented sweatband + Ventilo.
Seems well fitted and same age as hat. They were very popular on American Velours at that time-unlikely it left the factory that way though.

I actually like it! It appears Saks, Brooks Brothers and so on sold a bunch of these Alpine numbers. By the way wears great!

Echter Mayser, Size 58cm, excellent condtion, probably early 1950s

The felt is a beautiful shade of brown with a great finish. Also very nice bow, brim stitching and binding work. It has a tapped sweatband which is not common for Maysers. The only other one have seen in my older Mayser Talpa Velour. This makes me think it's earlier than the stitched sweatbands but this is just a guess. It was sold out of Ernst Köln Men's Store which is common source for nice hats. I would like to thank Manfred for the kind shipping assistance!

Since this hat was made by TONAK, I figured it would be an OK place to put it. I looked through all 244 pages of this thread because I wanted to find inspiration for my next modern velour project. I never wear black hats, but I think I want to try wearing a black velour with a 2 1/8 - 2 1/4 brim and my standard tall crown. Basically a 1930's style. I know there are some fantastic pre-1940 black velours in this thread, so I have been collecting ideas for ribbon styles, and sweatband details. Upon doing this, I realized that my recent Dobbs (TONAK) velour conversion was missing something. The larger brim was nice, but really wasn't my style as a snap brim. After looking at all the wonderful 1930's velours in this thread, I decided to chop the brim to 2 1/4 inches wide and use a flange that was flat in front but had a high real curl. I tried to replicate the styles of the 1930's Austrian/German velours.

The felt on this velour is very thick as many other German/Austrian velours that I have handled. It was exceptionally difficult to flange the rear of the brim because the flange was so high and the felt was so thick. I had to wet the felt, steam it, press it with an iron, put pressure on the iron, and go over the area about 20 times. I finally got it, and hopefully it will stay flanged for a long time.

Josh, That looks really great! I really like the form after the brim and flange change. It looks right in place with the hats you are targeting. By the way the 1930s JHS Foulard and Zyphyr Velours are light weight. Have you had a chance to handle one? I believe Robert has a JHS Sigma Foulard.

Manfred, Thanks! I hope you find one like it!

Justin, Thanks!
