Patches on the Yale shirt...

They should have been sewn on 'before' the sleeve was made-up, as the machine cannot take them once the sleeve is stitched together (into the tube form). But It's jsut as nice without. The patches will make nice coffee coasters at my desk!! Oh, and 'thanks' Nick.

Nice sewing skills gents. I'm no good at sewing, but here's a little necklace I've just made for my sister in law's birthday:

It's quite small, the leaf is a mint leaf about 1" long.
Not sure about the pearls though, I may remove a couple of them.

The nappy bag was kinda meant to look like a poachers/hunters bag

its made out of new old stock bits and bobs

the little girl is made out of Chinese,Greek and bog Irish parts,also new old stock

Opinions on my stress release activity

I like piddling about with wood and since I had a 2 foot long log from a cedar tree, I decided to be creative. I made two (one foot long each) "whatevers"...

I've decided to be brave and open myself up for opinions. Good or bad, I do enjoy the outlet at the end of the day.

A bit of my own

There is really some talent among the members here. Congratulations to you all. I have a special weakness for those beautiful hand buttonholes.

I actually sew for a living, learned it old school (apprenticed under a Master Tailor for years), and now sewing has been paying the bills for some 26 years now. I design and construct both men's and women's garments. Suits, shirts, Coats, pants, skirts and dresses. Also make anything that I need to practical purposes.... ie;cover/case for laptop, etc.

Seems I am not a full member as yet, so I don't seem to be able to attach pictures. unless someone has another idea how to go about it.
Hopefully this will change in the near future.

My DIY selvage denim jeans

Actually made these back in October, just posting them now...

So, I wanted a pair of vintage style jeans for quite a while, but being pretty tall, never could bring myself to drop $170-$200 for a pair of LVC's that I couldn't even try on and that would most likely be too short to cuff in the long run. Found an old singer sewing machine at a thrift store for $10 and figured I'd give it a go at trying to make my own. Found a thread on Superfuture that detailed how to put together a pair of jeans, and it didn't seem that hard... Sourced some Cone XVOS redline denim off the internet-- the same stuff used for some of the 1947 Levi's repros --and only $3.75 a yard! For the pattern, I reverse engineered an old pair of 501's that fit reasonably well, added some length and modified the leg shape so that there is no taper at all-- totally straight from the knee down. I was trying to achieve that vintage 30's- 40's style cut. I don't have an overlocking machine, so I used bias tape for the exposed seams on the inside and used the selvage for the inside of the beltloops. The pockets are actually made from old flour sack material that I got off of eBay.

This is actually my second pair-- the first was just to sort of learn how to sew and how to construct them. A lot of work, and they aren't perfect, but there isn't anything about them that screams "homemade," and I'm pretty proud of them.

Nice! About the overlocking, how were raw edges finished in denim from that period? I've never examined any vintage jeans. Were they overlocked in the same manner as today, zigzag stitched, or just left raw?

Thanks. My kids (11 and 7) and I love the movie and it was a blast for them to watch and help where they could. We did it over a Spring Break. Wish I knew enough about leather to tell you, Rob. I went to Tandy Leather and picked a piece that was big enough and felt about right (thickness).....There are some things I would do differently (more leather under the arms), but I was happy with the overall result.
