I certainly like your style, Mrs Merl. :eusa_clap
rumblefish said:The heat and humidity and not too much rain in the Northeast has really made for excellent tomatoes this summer. I've never had such a huge glut of beefsteaks before August. I started giving some away during the second week of July. Also they taste better than usual, great balance of acid and sweet with a booming flavor. I'm very pleased.
I'll bet the roses keep their petals longer though.jamespowers said:Sure, keep bragging.
We have had lousy weather without rain or heat. Tomatoes are on the vine but not ripening. [huh] :eusa_doh:
Best tasting tomato ever, for sure.Puzzicato said:the first ripe tomato we have achieved in 3 years of trying. And it was delicious!
rumblefish said:I might have the kids sell some Juliet cherry tomatoes out in the front yard. Tell them who you are for a free basket full.

LocktownDog said:Same here. Roses look great this year. As for the tomatoes?... My cherry and heirloom pear bushes are producing somewhat, but not much. The larger tomatoes won't even set fruit. Zukes either. Eggplants are coming along okay now. Melons are scrambling but haven't shown flowers yet. Corn got big fast but all blew over in a microburst/duststorm we had last week. And finally FINALLY our peppers are setting ... thai reds and habaneros.

Here in California reused water I think is refered to as Grey or Gray Water and there maybe some info on reusing grey water on the web someplace like a government source. One of my cousins talked about doing it but I don't recall what the particulars were.
Mav said:And, just let me say that Brits crowing about their pepper growth annoys me. Why the hell won't my jalapenos grow in CA? GRRrrrrrr........it's just not right.
Baron Kurtz said:Just to bug you some more. Some of these have just about started changing colour. I lost one growth of flower pods to cold, but there's another batch of flowers opened or on the way, so the insects should be doing their work this week!! I see evidence this morning that one flower has been fertilised

I don't think I've ever seen them as grown plants at the nurseries, but I'm sure I've seen them as seeds- next year!Baron Kurtz said:Oh yes the skin is very edible! It's a really nicely flavoured variety.

jamespowers said:Well, the weather has still been stinking here so I am trifling with the idea of lighting some of my lanterns around the tomatoes so it will elevate the nighttime temperatures for them. This cold is really affecting them---especially the Green Zebra variety.
I set out the lanterns yesterday but forgot to light them in the evening. I'll try it tonight on a few of them to see if it makes a difference. [huh]

I grew cucuzzi or snake squash a couple of seasons. What a waste of space. They where extremely bland and the vines tried to take over everything. Once they got a big as your arm the skins became tough, I actually found a few that grew to over five feet, the skins became like crab shells.
Hey Mac, wanna buy a temater.
Sounds like good spinach weather though.[huh]
