FS: Lots of vintage hats, size 7 1/8 - 7 1/4

Many of these don't fit me as well as they used to and have been taking up space around the house, so I'm offering them here. The tagged sizes fit true to size. Shipping is dependent on location, payment through Paypal.

Also, all crown measurements are for open crowns.


1940's Stetson Stratoliner, 7 1/8
Crown: 5 1/4"
Brim: 2 3/4"

The color is a light grayish-brown. It doesn't have the reddish tones in these pictures.

The following picture is the closest representation of color.





There is discoloration to the felt in the back of the brim break, due to the oxidation of the copper strip that binds the reed casing together. This happens sometimes on older Stetsons. As in the next picture, the oxidation carries over to the upper side of the felt, however it is not visible while being worn. There is some wear to the liner, as seen above. Otherwise, in very sturdy and wearable condition. Sweatband firmly attached with no loose stitches, and no damage to the leather.

This is a relatively unusual mid-century Cavanagh in a medium toffee brown. The reason it is unusual is because of the larger brim, many Cavanaghs sport much smaller stingy brims. This hat has the famous Cavanagh edge, by the company that pioneered it. The felt has a beautiful hand to it, well deserving of the $20 original price. The price tag under the sweat read $20 (or $25), but has since broken off so the entire number is unreadable.





The ribbon has some noticeable water staining that may require a replacement ribbon.



This second to last photograph has the best representation of color.



The reed of the sweatband is cracking in some places, but does not impact the wearability of the hat. Also, the sweatband shows evidence of the hat's age and use, and could use some leather conditioner if you feel so inclined. In addition, there are three very small weak spots in the felt of the crown developing at the points of the diamond crease. As long as you don't grab the hat by pinching the crease, it should not be a big deal. Not that you'd be picking up a hat like that anyways, because we're all gentlemen here.

1950's Knox
Tagged as a 6 7/8, but stretched and re-blocked to a small 7 1/8. No damage to the sweatband as a result.
Crown: 5 1/4"
Brim: 2 5/8"
Ribbon: 1 3/4"

I sent this hat to a friend who is knowledgable in some basic hat renovation work, and it was cleaned, stretched, re-blocked, and re-flanged to its current size of 7 - 7 1/8. Only thing to note is that the sweatband could use a bit of leather conditioner if you wish.







The above picture has the most accurate color.

The color is basic Model T black.

No damage to note, besides a bit of light wear to the liner as seen above. Sweatband in good condition.

This hat is formerly from the Johnnyphi NOS stock, but has been gently worn. There is some extensive moth tracking across to the entire top of the hat, however most of this is not deep and there are no holes through the felt. However, some may find this discouraging which explains the low price on an otherwise great looking mid-century Adam.

Up next is one of the nicest hats to pass through my collection over the years. Sadly I've gone up in size and it doesn't fit me as well as it used to. Hopefully it will find a good home here.

The beautiful peach color in this picture is pretty true-to-life. It's similar, but a shade or two darker, than Art Fawcett's Sunset.









In very good condition overall, however as seen here there is some mothing across the underside of the brim, as well as a couple locations on the top of the hat. Also, minor, but still to note: a small discoloration on the top of the crown near the pinch (the side the bow is on), see the picture below. Hidden when worn by the crease. The moth nibbles don't detract from the overall beauty of the hat, though. And the hand on this velour felt is among the best I have ever felt. Smooth and supple like velvet.







Some discolorations in the liner. The most important note about the condition is the very dry sweatband, which will need a healthy dose of conditioner to liven up. It has responded to some Lexol, although I'd recommend Pecard's to finish the job. It has been wearable, though.



This is one of the best hats to pass through my hands, and it would be a shame to resize it so I'd rather it found a properly-sized owner to take care of it.
