Up for sale we have a great classic American leather racing shirt, likely from the late 1950s or very early 1960s. Interesting, this jacket appears to have original 1940s Talon zippers as the main and sleeve zips. I am not positive that this jacket is from the 1940s, but I cannot rule it out for sure. It could also just be a custom jacket made with original rarer 40s zippers.
Either way, the jacket is quite gorgeous - standout features include the rarer zippers, the unique back design, pointed collar spread, as well as the long sleeve zippers falling in a unique location on the arm. Further, the jacket does not appear to have been worn much at all. Quite nice condition for a jacket almost 70 years old.
As is typical of leather racing shirts, this jacket is unlined. It is also meant to be worn over a single layer, and exhibits a really nice snug fit. The shorter arm length is meant to accommodate racing gloves, but really looks quite nice as worn. This jacket is just a bit too small for me, otherwise I'd be holding onto it.
I particularly love these older leather racing shirts and the minimalist look they carry. These jackets were inspired by the European racing scene and their popularity really took off in the post-WW2 boom in motorcycle riding and racing. Perfect looking cafe racer, with rare 1940s Talon zippers.
There is no size tag, so please refer to the measurements pictured. Please allow a small degree of discrepancy due to human error. Please note that this a vintage piece, and minor wear and blemishes should be expected. Any signficant damage would be exhbited.
