One of the most popular and iconic WWII A-2 contracts, the Roughwear 1401, made by the master, John Chapman, himself.
The iconic Jimmy Stewart special!
This is the closest RW1401 I've come across to Jimmy Stewart's jacket (after almost a dozen top end repro RW1401s)!
£650 posted in the UK with tracking (elsewhere at tracked postage costs) PPFF
This is a VERY fair and firm price for a GW of this condition in this size.
This is half the cost of a new jacket, without the wait time of 12+ months.
Immaculate, super clean, all original, excellent condition.
No issues whatsoever!
This is a catch & release for me. Took a chance based on the measurements supplied, but it's too big.
I have a 40 chest, 5'10 and 76 kgs, athletic build and usually wear a 42 WWII A-2, GW, ELC, BK etc
This fits like a 44, although labelled a 46.
I've corresponded with John and he has VERY kindly confirmed all the details, he knows the jacket well.
He has handled and owned many Roughwears, so the pattern and detailing is spot on.
Details:
Shinki russet horsehide with fantastic grain and character. Its light and drapes beautifully.
Lining is clean and in near perfect shape.
Mid brown knits are original to the jacket, are of correct spec with lots of life left in them (they are NOT replacements).
Repro zipper tape with vintage Crown zipper is in perfect working order.
• No stitch holes from removed patches or name tags etc.
• The KNITS appear darker than they are in some pics, but its deceptive (they seem to absorb light and do not reflect the actual colour).
They are the correct mid brown hue, almost the same as Eastman's mid brown knits.
• Same for the LEATHER, its not 'red' nor 'orange', its a perfect lighter brown, russet colour.
