5 5/8" x 2 5/8" Dobbs Twenty, cavanagh edge, black, late 40s/ early 50s, Size US 7 1/8
Another hat that I wear too infrequently. It's a generous 7 1/8 size that would also work for smaller 7 1/4 wearers.
The felt quality on this one is something to behold. It's the kind of felt that highly benefits from steaming it in open crown position; the reactivated shellac makes the felt firm so that it reacts well to creases after the felt has cooled down, yet at the same time it retains a pronounced softness and looks pristine when put back to open crown. It's densely felted, with a well-executed cavanagh edge, and all the properties of the earlier felts. The hat takes dry creases perfectly and has that crispness so sought after in earlier felts; it's easily moldable, being soft and firm at the same time.
There are no issues; the sweatband leather & stitches are in perfect condition, as is the felt, and the liner with oilskin protector.
The felt, despite its slightly bluish appearance in some of the photos, is pitch-black. The ribbon is a 22 ligne black with a black, functional windcord.
Full, straight crown with 5 5/8" open crown. It can be dry-creased with a center dent or a deep diamond crease, or whatever shape you may want. 2 5/8" brim with higher flange.
