This is a VERY vintage Open Road that had been worn by generations of cowboys, or whatever, and needed a cleaning and new band. Art cleaned it for me, put on a new ribbon, and added a new interior band. He didn't do much with the liner, which is just sort of hanging there. I think this is a hell of a hat. But it's an odd-one to price. $150 plus shipping. As always, I'll entertain offers.

The color was probably silverbelly originally but years of use has left a brownish twinkling throughout, like worn leather. I think it's pretty damn cool.

What are peoples' thoughts about this lid? Frankenlid? Quality hat? Overpriced? I look at the profile picture and think it's a classic, but maybe I'm locked in the sunk-cost fallacy.

I like the hat.......a lot, it's even my size! In my very amateurish opinion I think the contast between the hat and ribbon is a little ..........sudden, this, of course would be any easy 'fix'. You may be a fraction high for the 'collector' market due to the condition of the felt and those, like me, who prefer well worn hats that could tell stories may not be willing to pony up that much?
I have a couple of hats that I've had professionally refurbished and have no thoughts of ever regaining my investment in them.

Here's a picture of a conversion of mine (from a startlingly white new western Resistol) that I am trying to give a well worn look - so far, coffee, tea and a long kicking down the gravel driveway - and yours still looks better!

Thanks Mike! The brown band was Art's idea; I think he felt it tied in with the patina of the felt.

I'm willing to pay shipping and will take offers less than the asking price.

Not for me, at least not this month. I bought a 'lot' of 4 - 7 3/8, 7 1/2 hats yesterday from the bay so my budget's busted :(

I got a couple of offers for $75 plus shipping, which I politely (I hope politely) declined. But I am not wearing the hat, and larger offers have not been forthcoming, so I have decided after thinking it over to will accept the first firm I'll take it for $75 plus shipping. Otherwise, I'm putting it on eBay.
