I have told you already in my last reply, it is meaningless for further debate on this. Your speculation based on your jacket, mine based on my research. If it is stained with black instead of pre-sealing on the core, grey core, tea core, red core is pointless. And expecting fast aging and color change is pointless too. Anyway, this debate ends here.

This isn't a debate, i am merely correcting the incorrect information you have been posting.
I have not speculated, only posted facts based on my observations, facts that are confirmed directly by FW as stated by @58panheadfan.

I have been wearing my jacket every day for a month now, several hours most days, as I have been wearing at home in the evenings and as much at work as possible.

Apparently I favor my right hip as I have worn through the black and exposed some grey. This is the only real area of wear at the moment. The photos increase the contrast between the colors, the wear is more subtle in normal light. I just figured out on my way home today that the wear is from my shoulder bag.

Jacket has been great to me, been worn in two wet snowstorms, one emergency digging of my stuck car in snow and a fall on some stairs which only scuffed an elbow. (I already cleaned that up). Been worn in single digit weather, keeps the cold out.

As the coat gains wear, I will add photos here.

P.S. Rude Black by Freewheelers is 100% grey dye core with a black dye overcoat. I don't know the specifics of the dye, just that the core is for sure grey and the outer layers top and bottom are black.

How did you clean the elbow scuff?

The old fashion way. Some leather conditioner, some black shoe cream and elbow grease. It was not a terrible scuff, HH is dense. I just didn't want grey scratches on my left elbow at this point.

It's almost as if it's not dyed black all the way through!

Seems like this topic has been covered inside to outside. No grey areas in the middle, so to speak.

If i were rude i’d have dismissed class a long time ago.

Is it the zipper that breaks, or the zipper pull? Is there a difference and which would you rather have happen given a choice? You can repair or replace a zipper pull, a zipper is more difficult...

Are having instructions telling you how not to use a zipper pull, so you do not suffer disappointment in ownership such a bad thing?

Just curious, I don't personally see anything wrong here either way. Your perspective of "if it is possible to break, why use it?" is rational and different than my perspective of "this is the best we could do to reproduce the original design, please be careful."

Those zipper pulls are born to break. More fragile than even the dainty teardrop Talon. I love they way they look. Best not to touch them though. Give those a good yank and it'll snap like a wishbone.

I now have Freewheelers jackets in both Vintage black and rude black. I can very clearly see the grey middle on the rude black jacket. It is not black all the way through, but I will be able to say more once I wear this jacket more.

The outer coating of my FW jackets does start fading away fairly quickly. I can see some of th tea core on all of my FW horsehide jackets now, but it is not overly extreme either.

I'm actually kind of excited to compare the two different black leathers I have to see which I prefer in the long run.

It's the zipper pull that breaks. The steel thread or whatever it is that's holding it together is very fragile. It's just too thin. On the up side, this kind of pull is easily replaceable but still, it's something I'd rather avoid.

The thing is, I personally do not want my jacket to have a zipper I need to worry about. Which is why the tab won over this and the chain pull and everything else. I think that's the reason? I don't know much about the history of zipper design but the regular tab does seem to be least error prone.

That said, I see your point and completely agree why you'd want it on a 1/1 repro but if it can be avoided at all... I'm all for it. It's really not a good pull.

you know...it is possible they used different dying techniques with different annual production runs. I thought I understood rude black was dyed through also. Maybe they've done it both ways

I have no idea if rude black and jet black fade at different rates, but this is a jet black Mulholland that I’ve casually worn for almost 2 years.

And you can see some abrasion spots with the red/brown undertone.

I belive their Deerskin is dyed thru in black version, called Jet Black (used in e.g. Sunset, Journeyman, Darius, Gold Digger Jackets).

The Centinella (J-31), at least the deerskin version, is also dyed thru in jet black, too.

Hi MemphisBlues, thanks for the beautiful pictures. I just have a quick question: are you sure this is a "jet black" Mulholland, but not the "vintage black"? Because it seems that Mulholland was never manufactured in a jet black version, and the term "jet black" is only used by FW on its deer skin and some civilian military cloth fabrics. But if you are correct, I am more than pleasant to hear the background information! Thanks in advance.
