Does anyone have any idea what this type of jacket is called? Perhaps something in the tradition of Belstaff four pockets? Schott made quite a few, but not sure what era, possibly 70s-80s. I recently found two in a Japanese vintage store, reasonably priced. They look like four pocket with half-belt and side buckles, the light brown is thicker and more sturdy, with some small stitching problems at the armholes. The darker one is slimmer and thinner. Both are very cool jackets with vintage zippers. The darker one even has blanket pocket linings.

A lot of these floating around, and can be picked up for not very much. From the '70s. It's basically an evolution of the basic halfbelt Cossack/Utility jacket pattern came to popularity in the mid 1930s.

It's the 1979 Schott # 102. As pointed out by Bretron Lesco made a very similar jacket. Schott Europe did a limited remake in the noughties and all of these types come up from time to time on eBay. There is a a discussion on a two tone example on the Schott forum here

http://www.schottnyc.com/forum/posts/on_a_search_to_id_this_jacketplease_help.htm

I've got the Schott Europe version and it's a well made nice fitting jacket. Although I've searched quite a bit for info on Lesco NYC I haven't found much other than references to a leather bag maker. Lesco jackets seem to come in a small number of styles all very similar to Schotts but perhaps with short vertical zips instead of cinch straps.

Dinerman, aren't there jackets from the 30s with similar configurations of panels/pockets/zips? I'm sure I've seen them occasionally on Ebay, and been surprised at how 70s they looked...

Looks to my eye like a 30s era halfbelt of the type you describe with distinct design influences on the front from the Type III denim jacket.

I also picked up a Lesco version, thinner leather, more typical of the mall jackets wore by the Anchormen! The Lesco has thick wool/blanket pocket linings. Lesco version also have belt, but there was a third one in the store with vertical zippers on each side, the angle of the chest pocket also slant in opposite directions. I just picked up another one in black from ebay. I've seen the two tone version, a repro, by a Japanese maker using waxy cowhide, very sticky and very expensive. I wonder where I can buy a new one nowadays, although no need as these vintage ones are well maintained. The tan Schott one needs some sleeve re-attachment.

The later ones into the 80s have a Schott tag sticking out of the side pocket and are not action back, but to compensate, they added the footballs also changed the sleeves attachment style.
