Many aircraft from that period are light enough that they need wingwalkers to take care of them on the ground anyway, so I dread to think what a "lightweight reproduction" would be like!

the last issue of Air & Space from the smithsonian had a full article on this movie. Of course it was mostly about the airplanes and the production but it was pretty much a fluff article seeming written by the producers. they used reproduction aircraft and some of the fake planes mentioned earlier. the backround planes were built in about a week and bbuilt like ultra lights. they were mainly to be used as backround filler, taxiing etc. they did have some sort of accident with one and decided to ground them. the article did say that the majority of the flying shots were of real flying replicas and there will be a minimum of CGI. the historical accuracy of the film was questioned and it was said this should be regarded as more of an adventure film than historical film. they made mention of how hunky the actors were. sounds to me like this will be a "Pearl Harbour" for the WW I crowd!

I just looked at their website. you guys are right about all those red Fokkers! theyre all over the place! I wonder if it occured to any of them that the Nieuport 17's were from 1916 and pretty much gone by mid 1917 and the Foker Dr. 1 didnt get into squadron service until Oct 1917. well I guess its better than stearmans vs. tigermoths!

On the move again...
This one looks like it may be promising. The areial combat footage looks to be very exciting, similat to the fottage in the Aviator when HH was shooting Hells Angels in the beginning of the film.

Jean Reno & James Franco are familiar faces anyway. Should be visually pleasing if nothing else.

Cheers!

I just saw a commercial for yet another period piece, this time, from the WWI era, which I admittedly don't feel as though I have enough knowledge about it. It's odd. I watch documentaries, but it always seems as though I only have a tattered understanding. Either way, besides the fact that the actors are so unmistakably late-twentieth century in their physique (though that may just be my opinion, and besides, what could they possibly do to change that?) this looks like a wonderful film.

So many new releases, so little time,
