Buena noche caballeros.
I have been reading and learning a LÓT here as a guest and have joined as member just last week.
Since this is my first post here, I will introduce myself in concise manner:
I am dutch born and moved into the mountainous heartland of andalucía in 2000 to change racing with the other rats for a more existential life of an a small farm.
I like pretty things but my daily life is rather hands on in the dirt so that has developed in ´dressing up´ for leisure time only.
This is p.e. the way I ride horse;
For driving in my ragtop 4x4 I have a Luftwaffe Winter Jacket (inverted sheep with canvass outer cover) and I would like to share some accessoires I have for that:
Just bagged a NIS; Not Issued Stock AK39 complete with extention strap, in the box for beer money!!
It will make a neat, if slightly out of period, companion with my ditto NIS:
This 1963 pattern gravity knife replaced the 1956 pattern one and is an improved copy, redesign, of the 1940 German WWII gravity knife, 2nd pattern, (take down).
From what I have gathered they were produced untill the end of the eighties.
Per 1st of April 2003, the possession of gravity knives is forbidden in Germany and that also applied to the Bundewehr. Surplus was sold to the US. I have managed to find one such unused/unissued.
Only three companies in Germany manufactured this tool:
WMF, (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), Carl Eickhorn and OFW, (Otto Förster, Witzhelden). Mine is by the latter. It thus has ´Bund´(eswehr) on the handle and ´OFW´ on the blade.
It is surpsingly HÉAVY and sturdy. This is one seriously overdesigned, pre chinese outsourced manufacturing tool from the days that ´Made in Germany´ meant durable engineering actually máde in Gérmany.
It measures 25.5 cm. in total (extended) and weighs a hefty 289 gramms!!!
There is yet another accessory us guys tend to spend money on; the goggles/sunglasses.
I personally have never liked the teardrop Ray-b ones and nowadays they additionally have a wannabee association element for me.
The one the Luftwaffe ´bad boys´ wore was the splitterschutzbrille by Nitsche&Günther:
Originals with all goodies go for 1K and at that price it is a good thing that they are not ideal as sunglasses!
Unfortunately the NG-glasess brand has slid downmarket and afaik offers no nice lookalike.
Almost 20 years ago, in the Netherlands, I had my own made with orange roadview glass and as these are, they are not good enough for the andalucian summer sun.
Despite the HÚGE offer of sunglasses, there are surprisingly few shapes in men´s ones. We boys sure must be a conservative lot....
Anyway, I have meanwhile found an imo nice pair:
The small side-guard is júst short of exagerated and has even functional anti-glare addded value.
Yes, I have fliegeruhr as well but not the correct one It should be a chronograph and it is not so I make do with a 3017 Strela on a Laco fliegerband.
Another aspect is going out, dancing salsa etc. I have nice slick salsero outfit for that BUT .... still without matching headwear. So I will be doing soem surfing here yet Yes, suggestions véry wellcome :eusa_clap
Thanks for your time,
Petrus
