I think it looks amazing as is. I like pigment for its weather resistance.Pretty sure it is pigment over russet core. It will probably look amazing in about 50 years .

Bald spots are white/ hide colour. It looks like a split to me .That's the sad part of shearling jackets .It's nearly impossible to inspect the grain side before and after the tanning process .The butcher might nick the skin or it rips while staking/vibrating the hide .I have had worse spots . You can shave off the hair around it and burn of the remaining stubble .Then degrease very carefully and attach a Swatch of sheepskin with fur on it with strong shoe making glue .
I don't know if this is a quality defect or the roulette of life
You could also tie together the fur with some string .Or leave it as is .Some manufacturers have a really strong paint coat on the outside to counteract possible Knicks in the grain .
Better don't worry too much about it .
Contact Shawn and maybe he can I've you some advice .
Almost all shearling jackets have knicks on the inside
It looks amazing on you! Gorgeous jacket!Collar starting to settle and a ball chain pocket zip replacement. I love this jacket! Can’t imagine where you’d get an HH jacket built to spec at this quality level and price point anywhere else on the planet.

seriously? how do they look like?I see Shawn has now ventured into the world of nylon with both an MA-1 and N-3B..interesting……
The split looks bad feels bad. But TBH I would leave it and just wear it for now. There is no hole (yet). Only cosmetics. I believe this is one of those situations where preventive measures may do more harm than good.I have this material in arrive, is the same of my b3
if i wanted to proceed with the repair / reinforcement what could be the best way?
Thanks a lot
I'd like to use the gray nylon as a liner in my next jacket....
Thank you very much. Now i use the jacket and in future, if the skin will broke....time at timeThe split looks bad feels bad. But TBH I would leave it and just wear it for now. Here is a video Shawn posted on FB on how to fix needle holes. Basically with wood glue and hair dryer:
Here is a video on youtube showing how to repair an actual hole, with backing, and surprise, more wood glue and hair dryer:
Seriously, I know how it is to be laser focused on the flaws. But this is one of the cases where if it ain't broken (through), don't fix it. Every moment you spent looking at the two small flaws you are not enjoying the rest of the jacket you've just paid good money for. Not trying to be harsh, just showing a different perspective.
Been looking for one of these N-3B’s I’ll be interested in the price..looks good.
They do, im having one made right now. But you should check out further back in the thread about the leather, it is very stiff and other members have been critical of it.Eyeing one of the Five Star cossacks right now, namely this one, with the "cream" colored pull-up cowhide. Waiting to hear back if they still have this leather in stock or if its just another Five Star website fakeout.
Believe me, from the leather of the pictured cossack you do not want a jacketEyeing one of the Five Star cossacks right now, namely this one, with the "cream" colored pull-up cowhide. Waiting to hear back if they still have this leather in stock or if its just another Five Star website fakeout.

Oh dear, is that the infamous unbreakable belt leather I read about earlier? That's disappointingBelieve me, from the leather of the pictured cossack you do not want a jacket

You could get it made out of one of their good leathers though.
True re: better leathers available from Five Star, wish they had a workable natural color thoughThat's Tan CHL steerhide. Which is stiff. Which is based off Latigo leather. Which is used for horse tacks. Which is breakable with a gallon of oil. But there are many other better options.
