I just gave the OK for Sean at Five Star to ship my AN-6552. It only took 4 days for them to make it. I went for 1.4 oz goatskin with red quilted lining in the body and sleeves. I also had him add two oversize inner pockets. I have a leather cross zip from FMC that has them and they come in handy. I’m excited and nervous. I hope I gave them the right measurements.

I like that red nylon quilted liner! I might tweak my Californian, do it in seal and line it in that.

I commissioned an entirely custom suede jacket from Five Star (not a flight jacket). I was quite happy with how it turned out. They do their best.
Did you post pictures, I can’t recall seeing any. Completely possible I’m a fool and missed them though. If you did post can you link to them, and if you haven’t, can you post a few? Thanks.

Welcome to the lounge man!
That’s a very nice looking jacket, I am a real sucker for rust knits and dark seal leather.

Has anyone received a 5* jacket with the new/improved mfg tag?
I've seen a picture of a mockup but not the actual new tag yet. Wondering if it's officially in the wild.

A2 DUBOW SIZE CHART.jpg
Hi I saw your post in of your dubow, looks great can you share which size you went and what is your normal size? I am a little worried about narrow shoulder and big waist, thanks!

That's a funny story...lol. I was expecting to get the size table and make my choice with no alterations.

For me, with A-2s, I would hope the maker has the pattern dialed and and the fit, more or less, and it is what it is, kinda like if it was issued to you. Also I like some room so the jacket could be layered with flight clothing underneath.

Shawn wants to help and keep his customers happy, so he approached is from a bespoke direction. I provided a photo of another jacket with dimensions and body dimensions (different pattern and I said not bigger fit than this example). Shawn then provied the size table and suggested a 48 and to tweak it down, I think a 46 would have worked. I ended up looking at the GW and Platon sizing for Dubow and negotiated the numbers, lol.

I'm just short of 6' and 197lbs (down 70lbs). Dress shirt sleeve 34.
  • Chest 49 inches
  • Waist is 48 inches
  • Hem 48 inches
  • Shoulder 19.5 inches
  • Sleeve 26.5 inches
  • Back Length 25 inches
The Dubow pattern has always looked square to me and the jacket is a hair short on my torso (but I'm fine with it per my comments above).

I think the shoulders are narrow on the pattern, it made me nervous as well, mine were adjusted out (Shawn suggested more) and it's fine. Shoulders from GW and Platon were a little wider than Shawn's numbers.

Be advised if you order the AN-6552 from Five Star the single ply waist knits are a bit taller than normal, 4.5” vs the standard 3”, so the leather portion of the jacket will be shorter. I didn’t know that before receiving the measurement pics from Shawn. After some looking around it seems like they copied what Buzz Rickson was doing although I saw an original with a 4” waist knit posted somewhere. Wrist knits are 3”. Anyway, if I were to order again I would have specified the length to the top of the waist knit, not to the bottom as now the leather will end a bit higher than I had expected.

I was impressed with how fast they built my A2 Bronco and construction quality looks good.
But for some reason, they made the waistband/cuffs in dark green instead of the color shown on the site? I thought they would be khaki.
I let Shawn know so I'm hoping it's not shipped out yet.

Yes! After receiving several pictures of my jacket, the pics of him measuring it and later some fit pics, it looks like he sent me pictures of two completely different jackets because the colors were SO different, and nothing really looked like the options from the customization page.
I pointed this out to him and he said not to worry, it’s just lighting...my jacket arrives today so hopefully it will be all good. Fingers crossed.
