Five star leather custom jacket

Im looking into buying my first leather jacket. Originally I planned on buying one that’s used but I haven’t been successful in finding something I liked so custom is how I’m going. 5 star from what I’ve read is pretty good for the price and for a custom one especially.

Should I get a custom one? I have measurements from another jacket that I like.

My question is what upgrades do you think are worth it? Options being wool lining for the upgrade or just cotton. YKK zipper and sizes too? Honestly not sure the difference of zippers. Also removable fur collar (I mean maybe but would it look bad?)

Also leather type, I’d like it to be a thicker leather and think steer hide might be the way to go. Willing to pay for the better option.

I have an idea of the silhouette and that’s an option that I can submit a photo. But how accurate would it be made to the way that photo looks?

Kind of a ramble but honestly I’m looking for some guidance and haven’t been able to find an answer that I need.

Thanks for understanding here, we've just seen some unusual requests for information, you indeed seem curious in the correct way. So indeed - welcome. We're here for any questions etc. Also, you will notice there are hundreds of pages in that specific thread, so there has been a lot of discussion. I have no first-hand experience with any Five-Star jackets. I am aware of some improvement over the course of time. However, I will say that finding some good used options on this Classified or ebay may be a better route to check out. Good luck with your search.

In any case... if you are extremely knowledgeable and provide such detailed information that there is absolutely no room for interpretation.

But you won't be able to do that, because the creativity of 5* in misunderstanding something is limitless.

If you have a jacket that you want to copy 1:1, then that works very well.

But then there's still the unsatisfactory leather.

And they're not as cheap as they were a few years ago. Shipping is very expensive, and customs and VAT are usually added on top.

And there's almost never a refund if you don't like it or it doesn't fit. You'll get a 50% coupon for another jacket.

Perhaps OP could mention what he's looking for in a jacket that makes him want to go custom with 5 Star over used or ready to wear from more reputable brands or makers. I think TFL excels in giving many different option choices in such scenarios.

Many of the issues with 5 Star jackets appear to occur when people go ‘off piste’ and custom.
As long as the sizing and measurements of a jacket actually match with those on the 5 Star website then something just stock would be the way to go.
Having said that there are always the risks associated with buying anything from outside your own country if something doesn’t go according to plan.

My suggestion is to run away very quickly from 5 Star and instead pursue a used jacket. You can find great ones in the Classifieds here, or on Ebay. What kind of jacket are you looking for?
