This is my first post on the Fedora Lounge and would like to thank the Forum and especially all the amazing posters that have shared their experiences and knowledge on all matters regarding leather Jackets. Its very rare to find a forum site that contains such fine folk that discuss, critique, share, support and behave in such a gentlemanly and mature manner. Thank you, you have all helped me immensely in the purchase of my first quality leather jacket, an Aero Highwayman.
I started the process about 18 months ago, spending literally hundreds of hours on this site, looking at all the amazing jackets, reading all the fitting posts, drooling over the endless posts of amazing jackets and blown away with certain individual’s private collections. After a lot of deliberation on body shapes, jacket styles, age groups, leather types, personal likes and dislikes, manufacturers etc. etc. I decided at the end of September to contact Holly at Aero to get the ball rolling.
Working with Holly was a great experience, she is an amazing lady, knowledgeable, professional, and most importantly, just a wonderful human being. Thank you Holly.
I sent her a fit pick (or poorly fitting pic) of an exist leather jacket that I have been wearing for the last few years, giving her the measurement of the jacket along with my actual measurements. As a guide, I am 55 years of age, 6’2” (188 cm), 220 lb (100 kgs), 44” Chest expanded, 40” stomach (too much beer and good living) and 40” around the waist over my belt, 27” arm length and requested a back length of 27”. Researching this forum, I found that observing other individual’s personal stats and jacket measurement in conjunction with the Fit pics, really helped me choose a suitable style and Jacket size. In my case with a relatively blocky shape, 44-40-40, definitely not the Greek Adonis physique, the Highwayman style seemed to fit the bill.
Based on my stats, Holly suggested a Highwayman in size 42 would be the best fit and I went with Vicenza HH in Blackened Brown (as grainy as possible), Antique Brass fittings, black stitching and Patriot Modern medium weight Tartan Liner (went this way on the liner as I wanted to show my support to Aero and Scotland as they were doing it tough through the corona pandemic).
I received final confirmation prior to manufacture on 5/1/21 and my jacket arrived yesterday 25/2/21.
To say that I was blown away by the quality and construction is an understatement, the stitching is perfect, the leather grain and color is beautiful and very sturdy. The lengths are on the money and I feel that the fit is great for my first go and will only get better over wear and time. I will let you experts be the judge. Here are a couple of pics, only thing missing is a smile, but inside I was brimming with joy.
Thanks again to all of you incredible posters who make this site such an amazing library of knowledge.
