First blue suit. What do you think?

Hello everyone. Always a pleasure to read all of your comments. Its good to see so many people who know their stuff. I just picked up a suit thats in the tailor at the moment, but I did bring home the vest. The suit was almost a perfect fit, but needed the pants worked on.

Its a dark blue with maroon and white pinstripes. The jacket fits good on the shoulders and tapers quite a bit. The lapels are not that large. The sleaves are still creased and are just long enough to show some cuff.

The pants are straight with no taper and have a tall cuff at the bottom. They are flat fronted with no pleats and have suspender buttons.

I will post pics of the whole thing once I get it back. The general idea is that it is early 40s and it seems to be based on what research I've done and what I've read here.

My question is: what color should I go for with my accessories? Would a black fedora and shoes work? How about spectators? Is there a particular shirt or tie color that you would recommend?

I would appreciate whatever help you could give, as I've never owned a blue suit. Black and brown have always been my preference. Thanks!

here are some pics of the vest and fabric:

First things first, NICE fabric - we'll surely demand pictures of the entire suit when you get it back - wherever did you find it?

You can do a lot with that. White shirt, gray shirt, blue shirt. Brown fedora would work, burgundy ties (the member who bought a boxful of deadstock 30's ties will have one that works well - check classifieds).
Cordovan shoes, black shoes - it's an easy cloth with which to create several ensembles.

Thanks for the compliment scotrace, and the helpful ideas. I'll start looking right away.

In answer to your question, I picked it up at the only vintage clothing store in town. I've been searching for a very long time online for a new 'old' suit and just couldn't find any I liked in my size. As far as I knew, there were no shops like it in town, and the thrift stores and antique stores were bare as well. Then one day an older lady I know heard I was looking for one and told me about a little vintage lady's shop in town. So, I went in and there and hidden amongst the many furs and dresses there were 2 suits. One was a 60s brown suit, and the other was this one. So, I tried it on and it was nearly a perfect fit. The store owner was very friendly and gave me a discount. She also said she had a good tie that matched it and said if she could find it, it would be free.
