$860 Takes the prize!!!! (Unless the buyer Defaults which seems to happen sometimes). I think the Sheeley Bros. bought it or perhaps another maker. Pretty penny indeed. But then, I haven't seen one like that in that condition I don't think..... like EVER.

Good try brother!!

If someone else here snagged it, please share on it when you have a chance!!

Is this you?:) All in fun....

Close, but Got It! Total: $952.92

No doubt Dave was in the hunt. He has more than a couple of vintage Monarchs, I've sold him a couple.

That was all I had. Doesn't seem odd when I think about cost of a fine new leather jacket. When you look at from my perspective it is a hard jacket to walk away from, even a bargain.

One of my GREATEST jacket finds ever came on a jacket I lost on at auction.
A seller local to my area was selling 3 jackets. I bid on all but REALLY wanted this heavy one that went for up near $500....... way more than my bid. Strangely, I won both of the Seller's other jackets---A French Capeskin car coat and a Schott Bomber. I asked if he would do local pick up and he was cool with it.

SO I went to his shop to pick up the two jackets I bought, and I was really feeling kinda crappy for not bidding high enough to get the other one that I REALLY wanted. I kept imagining it getting listed again and being able to go for it again and what I would bid etc. etc.

Anyway, when I went to meet with the Seller, it ended up he was in a bit of a rush because he was moving out of state and had a lotta things on his plate. But he had time to show me the jacket I lost out on while I was grabbing the others. I told him I really liked it etc.

A couple days later, he messaged me and said the Seller had bailed and refused to pay or return messages. This guy was so busy, he didn't even want to bother to list it again or try to track down the runner up bidder. So he just hit me up and asked if I wanted it since he knew I liked it. He preferred to trade it for something else vintage. I ended up trading an old Horsehide Police jacket that didn't fit me well but fit him pretty good straight across for what I now believe is a Taubers Highwayman type of jacket. It fit me so well, I almost gave up buying more jackets.

ALMOST. Alas, the sickness is not so easily cured......... No Vax for the leather jacket bug.

...some perspective. In 1942, one could buy an American-made, horsehide A-2 for $10...about 0.5% of an American's average, annual income at that time. Today, an American-made horsehide A-2 will cost about 1.4% of an American's average, annual income. It demonstrates how wages have not kept up with expenses...and how nicer leather jackets have become less accessible to the average Joe. Those of us who can afford such jackets are blessed.

When you know, you know…and you knew. Glad to hear this one will grace these pages. There’s so much in that jacket to admire. Never mind the quilted plaid liner, which I’ve never even seen before!

It has the look of the 1920s and probably from the 40s. I have several it's equal in many ways though none with a button front. The use of the zipper in the 30s really put an end to buttoned leather jackets. This Monarch is odd for that front styling in the 1940s, different jacket when you look at the back. Front looks old, back looks 40s.

The subtle quilted lining was worth quite a bit to me. Very Mid-west from the Mid-West, back to the Mid-West.

We will see what a $953 Vintage leather jacket looks like.

I had an $877 did in until about 30 minutes before the auction was scheduled to end. I bailed. I agree the jacket is well worth the price I just have too many other expenses to be buying another $950 jacket. In fact, I drop the prices on four jackets I have for sale hoping to raise some scratch for his one
Congratulations Terry a good purchase
edit The fact that you got the jacket, I will learn more about it through your sharing than if I purchased it myself

My friend Cecil, a retired attorney and bison rancher, has been working to get these into production and just succeeded. They are made of American bison leather tanned by the Thomas Bates company and constructed in Honduras. Cecil is as All-American as you get. I'm sure he would have had them made in the US if he could have pulled it off.

The boots are 13" high and have a thermolite sole, so they are fairly lightweight. His boots get trialed on working ranches in Texas, so they can take a beating. I think they would look great with a leather jacket. $300/pair. If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll put you in touch with Cecil.
