Congrats Griff! This will be your 2nd Aero jacket, right?

Moira made my jacket, which reminds me... I need to call Aero in Scotland... I want to personally thank Amanda, Will, and Moira for the great job they did in making my Aero NYPD jacket. :)

Hi. Its my third. My first is the goatskin cheyenne in my avatar, the second is the brown fqhh highwayman.

The cheyenne was made by Moira and its flawless, totally incredible.
My too short highwayman that I sent back was made by Vicky, and
although the work she did, didnt have any physical thing better
then Moiras (like stitching or so, because they were both perfect),
I got a feeling from that jacket that was beyond somone just
good at sewing a jacket together. It smelled of love for their work
and it had an aura that was just incredible.

My Highwayman im keeping isnt badly made, but I didnt get the same
feeling as I did with the other jackets. Thats why i asked if one of
them could make it.

Yes I remember your gonna get a snugger fitting one.
I dont want fqhh in this one because its gonna be a summer jacket
so as light as possible is the idea.

I was torn between satin and drill but want the most durable lining.
I thought about garbadine in other colors as black or navy but
werent sure if Aero had it. Really good move there my friend.
I cant wait to see it.

Sorry I forgot the 3rd one. :D

Yeah, Moira definitely does some amazing work. I'm confident your 3rd jacket will be just as amazing-looking as your other two. :)

One question... what type of material is garbadine? I had never heard of this material until I joined this site. Does it have the feel of cotton or is it smoother like silk?

The garbadine in my sleeves feels like a strong cotton.

Here is some information from wikipedia about garbadine:

Gabardine is a tough, tightly woven fabric used to make suits, overcoats, trousers and other garments. The fibre used to make the fabric is traditionally worsted wool, but may also be cotton, synthetic, or mixed. The fabric is smooth on one side and has a diagonally ribbed surface on the other. Gabardine is a form of twill weave.

Cotton gabardine is sometimes used by bespoke tailors to make pocket linings for office-type suits, where the pocket's contents would quickly wear holes in the usual flimsy pocket lining material.

The material was invented in the late 19th century by Thomas Burberry, founder of the Burberry fashion house in Basingstoke, and patented in 1888. The fabric takes its name from the "gaberdine", spelled with an 'e', which is a long, loose overgarment tied at the waist.

Burberry clothing of gabardine was worn by polar explorers including Roald Amundsen, the first man to reach the South Pole, in 1911, and Ernest Shackleton, who led a 1914 expedition to cross Antarctica. A jacket made of this material was worn by George Mallory on his ill-fated attempt on Mount Everest in 1924.

Depending on the type, gabardine is either dry cleaned, as most other wools, or is machine washable and dryable on a low cycle. A warm iron should be used for pressing; ironing it at a higher temperature would mark the fabric.

Thanks for the very informative post about garbadine! One thing that stood out for me is how it's a form of twill weave. Carbon fiber, the material inside my heart keeping me alive, can be made of a twill weave as well... basically with the twill weave it has a diagonal weave to it. :)

Im peeing my pants lol

Congrats Griff.. I was debating between the Cafe Racer and the Highwayman and went with the latter.. I can't wait till you post photos and provide your commentary. The sneak preview photos above looked pretty darn good..

Seems the timeframe to get your jacket made was not really outrageous either.. 14 weeks?

Good luck!

Griff- Interested to see if Aero actually accomodates your request to have Moira or Vicky make your jacket.. I've read several folks on these threads ask Aero specifically for those two by name when ordering their jacket.. Is there really that much of a difference?

Wonder if Aero is more accommodating in this regard to repeat customers than say first time customers?

I ordered it the 14:th so its 17 weeks minus the holidayweek so in total 16 weeks.

The jackets I have had from Moira or Vicky have just been so perfect. My Highwayman tho is not made by either but its also perfectly stictched so it might not differ.

With regard to who makes the jacket, I have to say this:
I had a FQHH Highwayman made by Aero.
While the fit is perfect, some of the stitching isn't.
Some stitching is less than straight, and some seems to be
a much higher stitches/inch count than the rest. In one spot, a piece
of leather was completely missed from being stitched down; finally, they forgot to sew in the bottom strip of leather on the lining.
I sent it back and they fixed those last 2 items. But some of the stitches
they used to open up the bottom of the lining and sew the leather strip in don't match up with the original stitch holes.
Oh well, I love the jacket anyway.
Lenny

PS: If you want to know who made it, PM me.

Would you like me to give you one of my infant daughter's diapers for you to use? LOL... just kidding, bro. :D

Congrats!!! I know how excited you've been all this time to finally get this jacket in your hands. I'm equally excited for you, my friend. :)
