"Casual Friday" at the office.

I got a pair of 6" Chippewa Apache boots from Amazon for $100 or so over the holidays. I wanted something less expensive (compared to my Wolverine 1000 mile boots) for everyday to knock around in.

I find these very comfortable - even right out of the box.

Starting the break in on a pair of RW Blacksmiths in Charcoal. A little stiff just like the Beckmans but a couple of wears and the spots that bother me go away and become very comfortable.

I bought a new pair of those a few weeks ago. Have them at work and wear them a few hours a day until the discomfort gets too bad. Nice boots and sized correctly but what a bear to break in at least for me.

Everyone says once broken in, they will feel great........

I have a slightly different style in the Apache leather and totally agree, they're a very comfortable boot, and IMHO, a great bargain.

My experience with RW boots tends to support that. Takes a few weeks and then all of a sudden they become very comfortable. The process is not always fun, however.

You guys just delayed my RW Beckman purchase. Ordered pair of 6" Chippewas in Rodeo Tan...

That's a nice looking color. I find their leather to be thick enough to be sturdy, but extremely comfortable right out of the box. I've been beating up on mine pretty good and they seem like they can handle it.

I think you will like them Tom. I applied a couple light coats of Obenauf's HD LP on them when I first got them last month and now just give them a quick brushing with a horsehair brush after wearing. They are actually my most comfortable pair of boots - and the price I got them for was icing on the cake.

IMO the rubber sole offers a good compromise between foul weather traction and the tendency of a more aggressive "commando" sole to pick up and retain stones and gravel.

My only negative is the standard eyelet grommet at the top that follows the speed grommets. Doesn't make much sense to me.

These are my Drew's Cascade Rancher's made for Drew's by White's Boots. The black pair have a single leather sole whilst the brown pair have Vibram mini Lug soles. The difference is that the black pair I estimate feel about 20% lighter and much more comfortable and practical to wear for casual or dress use. The quality is comparable to White's branded products. Drew's have the unusual practice of stamping their phone number in large numerals under the brand name on the outside uppers.

Those look like the Thorogood 1892 boots

Similar plain toe design and using the same horween chrome excel leather but these Danner are actually much much better in terms of construction with the most obvious difference in the heel counter. The Thorogood has rubber outsole, midsole, heels and what look like synthetic welts. Mine even have irregular stitching on the welt. These are as seen with rubber half sole and leather mid sole, heels. I paid USD 300 for these Danner at a shop and a bit less than USD 200 for the Thorogood on ebay which normally set you back for around USD 250. A seller's photo in the link below of the Thorogood where you can even see the irregularity where the counter meets the vamp. I must say the Thorogood are comfortable but are with numerous little cosmetic flaws (I have 2 pairs which I reserve mostly for the rain because of the whole rubber bottom construction). I have sent one pair of their Borum Hills back only to get another pair with different little flaw in exchange. I kept them in the end as they do not affect wear. IMO, these Danners represent the best of both worlds thicker more supple Horween leather like the Thorogood and the almost flawless construction like the Lonewolf and a price in between the two.

These Chippewas arrived last night & I wore them out for breaking in session.
They fit true to size for me. Ordered same size as my RW Iron Rangers & they fit dead on.
Out of the box, they felt great. I like the waxed laces, at least they feel waxed to me.
Will post some photos when I get them on for next session.
