Thorogood-Epaulet NY No. 685s. They've been sitting without wear for two years, pulled out and worn yesterday.

^^ perfectly stated!

For comparison with Whites JSs (also in CXL)

Those look great Bretron. I really like both Whites and Wesco's logger boots. The biggest difference, or at least what stands out most, is that the stitching on the welt on the JLs looks really really clean. More refined and less rugged than Wesco or Whites. Some will like the former, some the latter.

I'm going to order some leather conditioner today. I gather Obenauf's is the way to go for boots? And should I also invest in a hard brush?

My Thorogood BELOIT 6 INCH PLAIN TOE BLACK CXL. I also have the horsehide Thorogood Borum Hill but this new pair is obviously improved as the tongue no longer slides away. Downside is this is not horsehide and for the same price I can get a pair of Wolverine 1000 miles made also with Horween CXL.

^Very nice. I have the same problem with my Thorogoods. The tongue slides away and disappears! It's not a dealbreaker but it is a mild annoyance.

depending on your climate, you could cut a couple of small vertical slits in the tongue and run the laces through to keep it in place.

Very nice. Are these from Context? Can you comment on sizing? I wear a 9D dress shoe and an 8.5D on the Alden Tru balance last (Indy boot). Would an 8.5D work for the Thorogoods? I wished Thorogood did a cap toe boot

Same as the one from Context but bought on ebay. Toes though not as pointy as dress shoes but these are not that wide either (at least not as wide as Indy) so I'd suggest you buy size 9.

So they're TTS? The seller on eBay seems to have these for $199 + 10 for shipping. Thorogood also sells these on Amazon for $220

I guess they are. Point is it depends on how you view it. If for example your indy is your true size re the length, then you should be size 8.5, no? In any case, I'd recommend size 9 reason as stated above. The ebay price is about right but mine is slightly defected as the stitching on the welt of the left foot goes all over the place, I just couldn't be asked to return them.

My TTS is 9D, which is my dress shoe size. The Alden Tru balance last fits a half size larger, hence the 8.5. I just wanted a sense of how the last fits on the Thorogoods

I'd say Thorogood's last is closer to dress shoes than the Tru balance provided you are in fact D width. Sorry if I cause any confusion because I rarely find boots or shoes that fit my width so I usually have to go up half or one size in terms of length. I wear size 10 in Thorogood and though I don't own the Indy, I have tried them before and size 9 and a half seems to fit me.

Next time I'm back in the US, I'm going to have to try a pair of those on! They look great! But, like jeans, getting the right fit over the Internet is so hard.
