Can anybody recommend a fedora that will be compatible with the convertible I drive?
As I'm sure you already know, today's automobiles are equipped with head restraints, and I consider that a good thing. But head restraints wreak havoc on the brims of my fedoras.
One solution is to wear a bill cap, except I'm tired of wearing bill caps. I want a fedora. Specifically, I want a felt fedora with a 2.5-inch snap brim.
What to do?
I had thought a crushable would solve my problem, so I bought a Bailey's Blixen last summer before driving 2,000 miles to Montana. It wasn't as nice as my fur felt hats, but it worked. Except, four months later, the hat developed a whole lot of fade spots.
When I went back to the store, I was told I had obviously gotten something on the hat. Well, there might have been some light rain, but I wouldn't think a little water should damage the felt. And whatever damaged the felt had no effect on the band.
My best guess was that the felt was somehow defective. Then it occurred to me that the problem might be inherent in the material itself, which is LiteFelt wool. Now, I'm reluctant to buy any crushable felt.
Any advice?
