Based on that article, they might not ever get it cast, so yay?
They've got the script, the producers, the directors, a release date and a big pile of cash; they'll find a cast. ;)

If anyone could pull it off, those two can.

Hummm. Yes, Dumb and Dumber was such quality entertainment after all.

Their casting attempts already show they have no clue. Clooney as who, Moe? I'm glad he passed. Larry David as Larry I could maybe have seen 20 years ago, but isn't he a little old these days? Sean Penn? You know he might just be able to pull it off. It'd be interesting at least.

But why cast from Hollywood's A list at all? Why not find some talented unknowns to play the stooges, and then maybe cast one major star in a supporting role.

I have a bad feeling about this one.
Bronsan Pinchot was in a new Laurel and Hardy movie a while ago and just didn't work for me.
The best remake I've seen of a classic 1930s comedy team was Brain Donors with John Turturro, Mel Smith and Bob Nelson. It was a based on A Night at the Opera (the Marx Bros. movie not the Queen album) but they didn't try to copy the Marxes outright.

Sincerely,
The Wolf

I quite agree,..on all points. Sean Penn might be able to pull off Shemp,(see my avatar lol ) But I just can't see any known actors in the roles of the Stooges. Unknowns is the only way to go, but even then it would be difficult to find look-alikes.
And then there was that less than stellar, (ok, I'm being kind here :eusa_doh: ) made for TV thing from a few years back. It just can't be done really, nothing could possibly compare to the originals.

Sean Penn as Larry? Its interesting, they will sure find someone for Moe and Curly, even Shemp. It would be interesting in current dates and present times, like what if? Set in 1930/1940s would be tough, maybe expensive, you do not want to tarnish images by hurrying to finish film. Do them with honor and class.

Michael Chiklis did a honorable Jerome 'Curly' Howard in the 2000 TV movie "
The Three Stooges" can be seen on USA "The Shield" and Fantastic Four movies, not sure if he would want to be added, you never know.
His Curly was great.

I cannot imagine that a movie where actors try to re-create the broad comedic slapstick of the original three stooges would be entertaining. Then again, the wife has told me that I'm "consistently wrong" about everything, so pay no attention to me.

There are a few actors that are also traditional physical comedians. Like Jim Carrey. And the guy who played Jack on Will and Grace was probably fantastic as jerry lewis. i haven't seen it though.

But to think that most regular actors could do good slapstick is misguided.

Now, if it were a film about the three stooges, like the Chaplin movie, might work. if they were willing to put in the work to get the slapstick right.

My fear is it will be modern setting with some crude slapstick and crude humor, and will only resemble the stooges in title.

Actually, this doesn't upset me that much because I've come to separate characters like The Stooges, The Marx Brothers, and Brother Theodore from the men that portrayed them. Moe Howard, actor/comedian is not Moe Howard, Stooge, the latter being a character that could be played by an actor just as one would Hamlet or Othello. A hundred years from now, actors recreating these roles will probably be the norm rather than the exception. We're just too close to the originals to think about anyone else filling their shoes.

Jack

This sort of clear and rational thinking will get you nowhere, sir....you must just overreact and quickly...
