That may be why I do like what Ralph Lauren is doing for Fall/Winter 2012 in terms of taking cues from vintage menswear, esp. the way the Prince of Wales wore fair isle (some images already posted, I realize, but just wanted to re-post one for illustration)

They do have a good selection. I bought one from there a couple of years ago. It's a good shop, if a little small.

I've been watching quite a bit of the "Wooster & Jeeves" series and decided I need to get my hands on some Fair Isle sweaters/vests. I hunted around the internet/ebay and nothing really caught my eye as being vintage looking enough. Any suggestions in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Darcy Clothing in the UK carries reproductions.

the label on this one suggests 50s-60s but it does a very passable 20s look:

Instead of starting a new thread on the same subject, I figured it would be much more appropriate to ask my question here, and thus also rejuvenating this thread of excellent information.

I am on the lookout for a fair isle (or fair isle -inspired) sleeveless sweater. After reading through the entire thread, and following the various links provided herein, I seem to be without many options. Most of the links sadly no longer provide the product in question.
The authentic Scottish outlets is a bit out of my budget, with the prices starting at around 230£.
I have found Drakes of London, who got a decent selection at 135£, and Darcy Clothing at 84£.
My problem is that I do not really fancy any of the designs carried by Darcy or Drakes, and I'm not very keen on spending a lot if the product is just right.

Can anyone point me in the direction of other suppliers of fair isle (or fair isle -inspired) sleeveless sweaters?

These sweaters can be expensive, however have you tried a UK company called "Woolovers", they do a lot of knitwear, there is another called "White of Hawick" and also a firm called "Gretna" I think. Google them and see if they have anything suitable.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention that I had also looked at the selection offered by Aero. Sadly their sizes are much too big for me, as I', a 40" chest.

I tried to google the other three companies mentioned, but it seems that they do no longer carry fair isle patterns.

nihil, the Aero ones are far and away the most authentic looking. i agree that often other companies designs don't look authentic enough and often look like 1970s dad's jumpers.
keep checking on the Aero site as they supposedly add new sizes. their current 'one of each' design in one size only isn't ideal i'll admit.
