Today I did a search for vintage watches on Esty.
What I'm finding beside a number of brands I've never heard of, is it seems to me a LOT of "Vintage Russian Watches," Ie; Supposedly Vintage Russian Military watches, mostly aviator style watches.
Brands include Poljot, Rodina, Pobeda, and many claiming to be military or aviator watches.
What has me wondering is where all these watches that are supposed to be Russian Military issue etc, are coming from, and of course if their even real, ie original, some dates back to 1980s and 1990s which to me isn't that old..
But I question how real they actually are.
Here's the link to my search page;

I can't help with identifying fake watches, but you are wise to be leery.
An unrelated interest I have has developed a larger number of items available in the last few years than what seems likely to have originally been produced or at least likely to have survived in good condition. Hmm. Where did they all suddenly come from?

It just seems rather odd to have that many of an item Supposedly form a specific area suddenly show up in searches such as this.
It's definitely something to make ones BS rader come alive.
Especially as I suspect that it very had to track down what the original watches were.,
Still one wonders why and how they're all showing up on a site like Etsy?
Oh I'm Leery, Very Leery...

Well I'm living right next door to Russia. I remember when Soviet Union collapsed in the 90's, there was a flood of things Russian, including watches. They did disappear quite rapidly and it feels weird if they are coming back to market like 30 years later...
