From the October 1956 issue of Esquire: the grab-it hat.

This goes along jimmy's thread about the nonchalance block:

Esquire must have really been lost after WWII- they seem to have been absolutely desperate to push new fashions for some reason- I just don't understand what the motivation was- unless they were receiving kickbacks from clothing manufacturers[huh] ???

Behind the 8 ball,..
The asymmetrical aspect is bizarre. I expected the handle would be in front, but this is clearly a left handed model. Would they have made both a left and a right handed version? [huh]

Perhaps it was conscious/unconscious drive to leave the war years behind.
Or a longing for the future.

As found in another article, I think that part porkpie + part fedora = porkedora.

(forkpie just doesn't do it for me)

I was thinking that it sounds like Miss Piggy as a either a princess or a superhero. "Princess Porkedora" and "Porkedora to the rescue" just sound good to me. lol
