It doesn't add any credits, but the appearance of similarity is undoubtedly a reason behind the change. I gather Australia does this too.

Canadian lawyers have always moved back and forth, and I've never heard of the name of the degree ever being an obstacle (and that's all that changed - the name). You write the exams required, get the visa and go.

No, I think Silent Cal was largely correct. What he was saying is that the road to success, however one defines that, is only possible if you are persistent. Almost all achievers can attest that talent, genius and education are wasted without the determination to move forward to reach your goal.

Other. One Associates, was on the brink of a second before my alma mater adopted "Term Limits" (explain to me why they're bad for applying to politicians but good when inflicted on college students, please?) and a crapload of Independent Study in a wide range of fields that I could probably get a long way toward another diploma for the "I Love ME" wall via Credit By Exam if it weren't priced out of reason. (Every time you try, most times, whether you succeed or fail it costs the same as a class's tuition most places I've seen.)

Plans for multiple Masters' degrees and Ph.D.'s in the pipe, although not as fast-tracked as I'd like...

With all of these together, anyone can be great at anything regardless of how much talent they think you have.

I know this is not what this thread is about but the above pretty much sums up the exact antithesis of my thinking on these matters.

Nature/nurture/innate/acquired. I don't think we're going to get anywhere anytime soon on figuring out the exact role each of these factors plays, but i know i come down on the opposite side of the fence from the person quoted above.

Persistence and drive can't do what you can't do. I had plenty of drive but I couldn't get above 15:15 for running on a broken foot. (I didn't know it was broke at the time...it irritates me to this day that I fell down in the middle, because I was so terrified I was making GOOD time...)

Also I would like my educational level downgraded. I had that Associates' but I ain't done a thing with it.

This may be more appropriate for a new thread than here--BT's, please redirect if appropriate--but given the amount of time I spend in libraries, I'm actually starting to consider setting my History/WWII Studies major in-planning aside and pursuing one in Library Sciences, seeing if my local library will hire me at least part-time, which would help regenerate my College Fund, kind of making a side-trip as a stepping-stone to where I really want to be.

Anyone out there in the Library Sciences field care to offer any advice about what to look for in a Distance Learning program?

Finish your Bachelor's degree (in whatever subject that may be) before you go crazy researching about which library science program to enter. It generally does not matter what your discipline is for your Bachelor's degree.

To be a librarian, you must have a Master's of Library Science or Information Science from an ALA accredited library science program. Some universities offer a Bachelor of Library Science, but there's honestly no reason to have it, unless you're going straight into their MLS program immediately after obtaining it.

After you have your Bachelor's degree in hand, this is the main thing you should look for in a distance learning MLS program:

Is this program ALA accredited?
If yes, then it is acceptable. If no, then it is not.
