7 5/8 Strat - not the original ribbon (not mine)

Wow, Lefty...I somehow managed to overlook this photo - which shouldn't be so easy given its spatial resolution...

I posted the link myself but didn't dare to include such a huge image. My monitor has alredy acquired an unbecoming outward dent where the pic stretched over the borders of the screen. ;)

I took a gamble on this one, but didn't pay much so I won't be too put out if it disappoints. The seller assures me it's in "practically flawless" condition". It's a size 7 lo, which may work, since my 6 7/8 Disney arrived just a tad tight.

Great find Lucky, you plan on keeping the cattleman crease in it as well? [huh]
Bolt - Just can't handle the cattleman! I end up looking like some kind of deranged Hasidic cowboy! Naw. I'll open crown it and go from there.

Now I'm getting frustrated.

Hat arrived today, and it is indeed a lovely, lovely hat. It is also a 6 7/8!:rage: This is the third ebay hat in the last six weeks that was not the size it was advertised as when it arrived. The last two sellers (begrudgingly in one case) gave refunds. We'll see if this one does the same.

How on earth does someone come up with "7.5" on a 6 7/8 hat??:eusa_doh:

Sorry for your frustration!

I've found that some sellers don't do their research and just list the internal length of the opening and list that as the size.

If I suffered this many mistakes I would make it a habit to look for a hat tag. If none is visible I would email the seller before the auction's end to specifically ask about the sizing and if a refund is given in the case of a mistake.

Ouch. It seems that many seller mistake the front to back diameter for circumference or size. I hope you're able to work it out.

I suspect the seller measured the length of the opening and called it size 7.5 (inches).

Nice lid. Sorry to here it didn't fit. You stingy enthusiasts are a bad influence on me BTW ;).

I like to see a size tag or a comment such as "I wear size X and this is a little loose (or a little tight)" - or something to that effect.

Always get the circumference or diameters front to back & side to side, especially for vintage hats. Even a good size tag or label behind the sweatband doesn't mean it is still that size. Hats used & out in the sun may have drawn up considerably over years of use or just sitting. Vintage hat buying out of the 'Bay is a fishing expedition at best (pun intended)...

BTW a true diameter is the size because circumference divided by Pi gives the US hat size. Trouble is these hats are elispses & front to back or side to side diameter alone is not suitable but that is what some sellers post. I hate to see when they say size 7 1/2", always wary of those.

I lost this due to a very unfortunate phone call I received last night, which so happened to coincide with the end of the auction. Anyone care to help me make the best of a rotten situation and tell me it wasn't worth it?

OK, Its a modern Wool Felt hat of mediocre quality, but it did go cheaply.

It's rubbish...and clearly a cat crapped in it.

Feeling better?

Yep it's frustrating and I'd reckon all of us who regularly fish the Bay have been caught in the same situation. I had one arrive yesterday which was a size 7 instead of the advertised "22 1/2" inches. The actual size was still on the tag under the sweat band if they'd bothered to look! I didn't pay too much for it, thankfully and I'll give it a clean and stretch and see what happens.

But frustrating it certainly is.
