I know this one needs some sewing on the sweatband, but it was too pretty to let get away. I finally won my first ever bidding war for a fedora.

:eusa_clap Thanks! Also a good deal. We hear all the time about how difficult it is to find vintage '30s-'40s fedoras in larger sizes. Before the economy tanked, a hat like this one, in a size 7 1/2, would have gone for over $200 -- even with the unattached sweatband.

Congratulations! This is one of the finest vintage fedoras I've ever had. The felt is so, so smooth ...

:eusa_clap Thanks! It's in superb condition, and I love the color: the deepest, richest dark brown felt I've ever seen.

Thank you for putting the Mossant up for auction. I'm a huge WW2 fan. When you first posted that hat I thought I could live without it. But, as the week went along, my imagination started to run wild about where that hat has been. Paris, 1940, standing in the crowd fuming as the Nazi's march past. August 1944, watching de Gaulle lead the troops into town. It probably spent the war in Hoboken, but who knows?

The Chevalier auctions

Well, I got nothing :( but I put in an admirable bid on the Stetson 3X. What a beautiful hat - same for the Mossant...actually, same for all of them.

Marc - great auctions last night and looks like you did pretty good!

Probably not. It was made for the French market (the hat store on the sweatband is Sool's, which was in Paris), so it could well have "seen" the German troops marching through the Arc de Triomphe.

I saw your '06 post when you picked it up off ebay (dandy profit, too, might I add! lol ). Any clue about its whereabouts when you bought it? From a European seller? Probably not or you would have mentioned it.

I went for the Brown Heather. Thanks Marc.

:eusa_clap Thanks! Another one of my favorites. It's a great country/city fedora. The ribbon is a nice 'burnt umber' color, and the heathery felt is very rare. A cool detail that I forgot to mention in the auction: the edge of the brim has a hidden wire sewn into it, which allows you to easily shape and reshape the brim anyway you want, any day you want. Very cool!

Poor impulse control

I saw this languishing and put in a last minute bid and won it for $.25 under my max bid. Stetson Fifteen 3X. I know some of y'all have this one. What can I expect? (Besides an unworn hat in yet another Stetson box.)

Blackthron, that is a very nice looking hat and the price wasn't that bad for an old vintage hat, even if you have to send it off to Opitmo for a refurb, you will still make out on that deal, plus you got a good looking hat.:p

Thanks, Duggap!
