I was watching that one. But when they say "Never Worn"
and you can see the sweatband is all but shot and there are
indentations in the crown... I run away. Probably a great hat,
but I am more risk averse these days.

Yeah, including a shot of the sweatband made me wonder about the competency of the seller. You get all kinds on eBay.

I bid on it, but didn't win.

I've seen Golden Coach Dobbs hats before. I would guess this is their upper tier hat? What I haven't seen before and gives it unusual significance to me is that it is part of the "Tom Landry signature collection" Anyone ever hear of that? Was it one hat style in several colors or a whole series of hats?

On the sweatband one can read "London ... ". Loocks very 1930ies 1940ish. Or even earlier (print in the lining)

It is in "like new" condition.No sweat stains,no moth holes,no dirt,no nothing

Or, just a great Borsalino in excellent condition... The "deteriorating sweatband" is actually Borsalino's corrugated sweat -- check out the Borsalino Brotherhood thread for plenty of examples. That one looks like a pretty darn nice lid.

I don't disagree. I'm saying the seller should have added an explanation of what looked like a flaw in the hat in his photo. Because if I had reservations, so did dozens of others.

Another problem is you have to wade through a thousand words to get to any substance about the hat. And then the substance is all jammed up into one long paragraph and difficult to read. Add an unrealistic starting price, and voila redux.

If I have to read something twice to get the details I'm looking for, the ad would benefit from a rewrite.

I know there are some here who believe a cute story helps sell the hat, but I suggest such stories be placed at the end of the ad for those like me whose irritation level increases with the longer it takes to find the seller's clear assessment of the hat's size and condition.

There is nothing I enjoy more than an item description that begins with: "It's a dark and stormy night...and you, Detective Jake Steele are on the case"....

Two and a half paragraphs later.......
"and you emerge from the darkness wearing your trusty 7 1/4" Stetson, its ample 2 1/2" brim casting a mysterious shadow over your eyes from the streetlight overhead."

Well, what can I say? Just finding that pertinent information has made me feel like I really am a detective... so then I HAVE to have the hat! I don't even need to see any pictures!

If only ALL sellers would take such literary initiative!

(I've been waiting a long time for the right moment to gripe about that one)

Gilgamark, The Knox I won from that same seller arrived a few days ago. I'm still fussing with the bash, and then I'll take a picture. If that one is of equal quality, you should be pretty happy!
