Maybe too good to be true

3 Dobbs hats, my size, two are fur felt for $35 Buy It Now including shipping. I figured it was a no brainer and jumped on it before someone else did.

I'm anxious to see what I've got.

Great snag there, Roger! The "guild edge" or felted edge is always a good get but, I think, the straw is the winner. I think you did all right

Top one is coconut fibre unless I'm mistaken

I assume it's from coconut palm (I think that's probably what you meant) based on this picture:

Interesting spelling of cocoanut.

FWIW, I sent the seller a message asking that he drape plastic over the crowns if he stacks them for shipping. He was agreeable to that. :eusa_clap

I just hope they don't show up like Rick's. :eeek:

Looks hardly used. :D
Date? '55 - '65? The felt looks thin & dense.
Definitely not pre-war, but how long they used the cellulose crown topper, I dunno'.
I'll have to stretch it up a bit, but felt season is in the distant future, I'll slap it onto a stretcher & wait.
Too good to pass up for the opening bid, at any rate. :thumb:

Resistol Straw Hat Fedora-ish

This showed up on eBay listed as a "Registrol" hat, which seems to be why I was the only bidder. The brim looks like it sustained a little damage that I hope I can fix, but won't know until it arrives. I also won another hat from the same seller with only one bid. It's nice when sellers don't know what they have. :)

@hatophile, by Statie I assume you mean it was a state troopers hat. If so, that explains the grommets for the chinstrap. Forgive me if this has been covered before. I'm a bit of a newb here.

Yes, State trooper. Many of those guys and ladies wear a tan or gray colored straw with the chinstrap. Some are also straw versions of the Montana Peak:

Of course, some folks call them "Smokies".

Levallois, if yours and Splintercellsz are any examples, Emerson made some fantastic hats in their day
