With my Hats
Hey Guys, you know I took a picture with my cell phone (I don't own a camera), then I realized I needed the USB cord to actually upload the pics to the site! Duh! I ordered a cord and when it comes I will post pics on this site. I had been wanting to set up a Flickr photostream for quite some time showcasing my hats and I think this is the time to do it!

In the meantime, here are some more of my recently acquired hats. This site is not an auction but I had to splurge on two hats that caught my eye so they will be here (hopefully) next week! These 2 hats are from the estate of a socialite named Jeannette Brewer, so they say:

Here is what I recently bought on Etsy/Ebay:

I am finding it rather difficult to find early 1930s hats, but I come across some every now and then.

You have some very stylish hats there. If only women would start wearing them around, starting with the ones that you couldn't tell were made in 1940 or 2010. Not only would it look good, but it would give men more space to wear hats themselves. By pushing the boundaries you create more style choices for the average person. Right now, for most men, the only hat choice is a baseball cap. We need more choices than that.

Uh, less than $75 for a really nice Knox Twenty? That's a steal.
Is that sweat band really gray? Cool.

Sorry, I missed your question earlier. Yes, the sweat band really is gray. It's actually a blueish gray and VERY supple. The hat is a dark steel gray, that almost has a blueish lok to it. You can really tell when a hat comes from an enthusiast rather than from your run of the mill auction site seller.

Like I told the seller, I'm stunned nobody bid against me. I really didn't expect to win the auction. [huh]

Well done! I have one just like it and wear it often. Enjoy! ;)

The seller's probably stunned no one bid against you, too! lol

I've noticed that high initial bid requirements seem to discourage bidding for some reason, even if the initial bid is an amount that would be reasonable for the hat up for auction. Everyone wants to think they'll at least have a shot, no matter how small, of getting a deal! :p

Congratulations on going for it, and getting a great hat at a good price.

Cheers,
Tom

Fuzzy Borso sold by a Lounger
(and picked up by a Lounger :p)

That is a fine looking hat. I almost bid on it, but it obviously went way higher than I was able to spend at this time.

I did grab this one on a Buy It Now. Paid $20 more than the starting price, but it was worth $20 to me not to have to wake up early to bid, and be sure of winning it. I don't use snipe software.

Congrats. You do know that is a Western Resistol that the seller has converted into a fedora, right? It will be a lot stiffer than a true Resistol fedora. That guy does a good job with Western conversions. Check out the Conversion Corral thread for ones done by Loungers.

Yes, I knew it was a conversion, but not exactly sure from what. You think it is likely to be cowboy hat stiff? If it's to stiff, I'll toss it into the pile with other hats I am probably going to sell. Then again, I can wear it on our hikes that we do, especially when the weather turns cooler. I consider it part of my hands on education. Can someone clue me in on what makes western hats so stiff compared to fedoras?

You may find that you like a western weight body. I made my favorite hat from a torn brim pure beaver body and it keeps on looking great.

The Westerns have a lot more shellac added to the felt than a fedora. The brim gets a lot more shellac in the Western bodies for sure.
BTW the seller stated it started out as a Rancher model Resistol which is a classic cattleman creased, 3 1/2 to 4 inch brimmed cowboy hat. That one should make you a great hat for hiking as you said. One of my favorite around the ranch hats is a cutdown Resistol western.

I was thinking that the only thing missing is gosslin(?) brim edging. I think I would like to send it to someplace like Optimo to have edging and a matching thin ribbon put on Is there a way to get some of the shellac out of a hat if it is to stiff? I know I'll save any more of my boob questions for another thread.
