I placed a very low bid on this hat about a week ago and didn't believe I'd win it. We rarely see these and it is exceptionally clean. I am thrilled to add this one to my collection.

Oofa... Wrong Hat Delivered!

Well, that didn't work out so well.

Got the... sorry, got A hat the other day, but not the one I bought. Instead of the OR style thing in my size, I got a nice gray/brown vintage Royal Stetson. It's actually a pretty neat and unique hat, but not one I really need. It has a triple-stitched overwelt that will snap, but seems like it was meant to wear up. The ribbon is quite unique, too... there is a subtle stripe in the fabric, and the bow is in the back. Great condition.

So, I was disappointed, to say the least. I wrote the seller, telling them about the problem, fearing that my hat had been shipped elsewhere. Turns out, it's worse than that. She now says that the hat I won doesn't exist in my size.... that the hat I saw and bid on is actually a size 7. Now, I don't know how that happened, since one of the pictures in the listing was a LO 7 1/2 tag, but there it is. It looks like she somehow managed to get two photos right in the auction, but posted a picture of the size tag from the hat I received. I know... it gets confusing.

I just hope she's being straight up with me, and that it was a simple mistake. A conspiracy-minded person might see a lot of other possibilities. But, she has offered to accept a return, including shipping costs both ways. Or, I can keep this hat if I want it. Along those lines, please check out the classifieds if you're interested. I just don't think it's a hat I need right now.

Best,
Anj

I'm still heartbroken about the Dunhill, but I'm also pretty pleased with this little birthday gift I bought myself yesterday.

Carter,

can you take a look at this Hurley hat I got on ebay?

Was wondering if you knew the maker or which company did it....I have done all kinds of searches with what was given but unsuccesful.

Thanks,
Larry[huh]

Lefty, I don't think I can help Larry with his Hurley question. Do you know anything about Hurley (maybe) vintage hats?

The only Hurley references I have are modern hats, caps, clothing, and a character on Lost. And I don't think that's his lost hat.

Put me down on the list of people who don't know anything about that brand. I don't even have an ad for them.

Spending a few minutes on it, I found that there was a Delaney & Hurley Hat Company in Ct that was one of many corporations dissolved by statute on February 15, 1906. I'm guessing that Larry's hat dates to at least 50 years later.

I tried another search using barbizona.

Here's an Adam for sale in Scranton, PA.:
October 8th, 2008
Category: Clothing
ADAM BEAVER BLEND BARBIZONA HAT, mens, 7-1/8", black, brand new, never worn, w/multi-colored feather, standard brim, in orig. box, pd. $125., sell $32. +(SCRANTON) ###-###-####

There's another for sale in Japan. A Hurley (probably the style), designed by Hirsch the Hatter (the seller), Barbizona (probably the manufacturer), in 20X Beaver.

I'd say your hat and the one for sale in Japan are both the Hurley made by Barbizona and, possibly, sold by Hirsch the Hatter. We need more information regarding Hirsch the Hatter and Barbizona to get more definitive than this. Brad Bowers and/or Johnny Phi or someone else may be able to shed some light on this. Carter

Carter,

Those are the exact same pictures my seller had on her listing on Ebay...in fact that is my hat as the feather (which I removed)was in there the same way

Thanks for the research.

I'll past this to JohnnyPhi

I couldn't find anything trademarked for Barbizona. Even checked Hurley, but nothing there. It's another in a long line of mystery hats.

Great Hat Alan! I love the Cocoanut Hats! I looking to replace mine as it's falling apart.

Thanks! I don't have a coconut hat, but this seemed like a good place to start. I'd like to add another straw or two, particularly a Milan.
