Hello ladies and gentleman!

At first I would like to invite myself. My name is Philipp and Iam from Germany. Iam a fresh new member of this forum and glad to be now a part of it. I recognized this forum a while ago by checking out some product fotos and to get some information about flight jackets. I do collect myself and i would like to enlarge my collection if time and money allows it ;-)

Now I would like to use it for myself as a meber to get connected with other people who share the same interests.

My actual concern is to offer you a trade on a Eastman Hartmann jacket. I bought this jacket a few weeks ago on ebay. Now I made the hard decision to let it go. The reason is pretty simple, I made a mistake on the sizing. I really love this jacket and I would be really happy to get this jacket in a smaller size.

Facts of the jacket:
The jacket is in mint and nearly unworn condition. You could say it is new and it also has still the tag on it. I just wore it a handfull of times to be shure if it fits me and and if Iam happy with the size. The jacket has the size 46 and made out of capeskin. As you might know about the outstanding quality of Eastman you can imagine how awesome this jacket is. As I´ve mentioned it before, it is in a great shape and nearly new.

A little information on the fit:
So all in all Iam looking for a smaller size. Iam 1.85m tall and my weight is about 82kg. My chest circumfence is about 102cm. I have a good amount of room in the Hartmann jacket without looking bloated. I can easily wear a thicker sweater under it without feeling uncomfortable. But I definitly would like to have a jacket with a tighter fit. I´m looking for a jacket with the size 44 or 42, both in regular. The color is irrelevant to me. It can be a brown or a black one. So if you are interested for a size 46 and want to trade it with yours (with one of the mentioned sizes) I would be more than happy to hear from you.

Right now I don´t plan to sell it. So I definitly prefer to trade it.
Please check out the photos and let me know if you are interested.

Thank you and have a nice day!
//Philipp

Great jackets the Hartmann, getting lots of wear out of mine, makes a nice casual jacket, soft and comfortable but not at all fragile in Cape..good luck with a trade :)

Nice jacket and welcome to the forum! I guess you're only trading leather jackets right? I have a Eastman B-15 for sale right now.

Hello gentleman, thanks for the nice reply.

@bn1966 Thanks for the nice wishes. And yes I also really love the design of the Eastmann Hartmann jacket. It´s just a timeless design that gives you a really nice look. I was too sad as I´ve recieved it and found out that it is a bit too big for me, or not that slim fit as i´ve wished it. Anyway, it is a great jacket. Maybe I´ll have some time in the next days to show you how it fits me. I hope I got you right, but I´ve heard that too that the capeskin version shouldn´t be that robust as for example the horsehide version is. But Iam okay with that. The smooth and soft feeling of it makes the other fact secondary to me.

@nkang
Thank you too Sir. Right now I just want to trade this jacket with another size. Maybe I will come up with some other trades in the future. But thank you for referencing. I have two B-15 jackets myself, but thouse are early nylon versions that are made for the U.S. Air Force back in the 50s. One of them was made by Rolen Sportswear and the other one is unknown because the tag is missing. Iam going to upload some pictures in the next days or weeks to show up my little collection.

Have a nice day gentlemen.

Capeskin isn't as robust as horsehide but is plenty strong enough for everyday wear.
I've also got the ELC A-1 in Cape as a summer lightweight, soft to wear but tough enough.
Look forward to jacket pics.

Yes, so I got you right with the last message. But fairness it must be said, that you wouldn´t wear such a jacket while garden work ;-)
A little example of my every-day life and combined with one of my other hobbies. Iam driving an old german military car, a VW Iltis, were you can remove the doors and the top of it. On summerdays, when I´ve converted my Iltis theres nothing better to drive a topless car and simultaineous wear a nice leather jacket. When you remove the top of it (without a second helping hand), roll up the tarpoulin and fold the rod assembly, there is a danger that you can rip up your clothes by sharp edges etc. Make a long story short, at this work you can easily damage your clothes. It´s may sound strange what I´ve just described but it´s not like a common cabriolet were you push the button and the roof opens or closes by itself. So I had it more than once that I got stuck on parts of the rod assembly. Sometimes I was more than lucky to wear a robust jacket that is made, for example, of steer hide. So I definitly appreciate the advanteges of steerhide and horsehide more than just once ;-)

By the way, do you know why eastman chanced theyr production from horsehide to capeskin? I´ve heard that they produced the Hartmann some years ago only in horsehide.

Here are some pics of the jacket while Iam wearing it. Underneath Iam wearing a thin sweater plus a regular t-shirt. Let me hear your opinion.
Sorry for the bad picture quality.

I certainly wouldn't wear a Cape gardening or with your Iltis. I have a Schott MA-1 for those type of tasks.

The Iltis is very cool Sir :) I just missed out on inheriting a Willies Jeep replica a few years ago, would have worn a B-3 on board.

I was down at Eastmans earlier today, will ask them sometime about the change to Cape.
My Ostmann is in steer and up to the rougher jobs, that is now HH too I believe.

Yes Sir, so you´re definitly familiar with the tasks I have to master on a warm summers day ;-) Well as you said, a capeskin isn´t the best choice for such challenges. Predominantly I wear just an old and outworn jacket to do such things. Also a cheap M-65 does it´s job. But for a sunday ride or an other reason I prefer a finer garment, you know what I mean ;-) .
I hope I can find in the next future some willing person who wants to trade with my Eastman. Iam too sad that I made a mistake on the sizing. But it was a fair price and available. And in this case i don´t think that it´ll just help to shorten the jacket. I definitly want it tighter also. But we will se what time will bring.
Do you think that Eastman itself would offer such services to alter a jacket? I do know that they also make costum sizes...

My Schott MA-1 cost £10.00 inc postage and has had two years hard wear, work, Scooter and car chores inc lying on the ground.

For a Sunday ride a superior garment is the order of the day Sir. My Fiat Abarth or Vespa Sei Giorni.

For the Hartmann, It may be worth posting on the Eastman site in their classifieds that you want a trade.

As for alterations, I'd be very suprised if they'd alter it, they don't do custom these days only regular or long fits. Personally I'd hold out for a trade or else sell to fund a smaller Hartmann.

We both definitly seem to be have the same interrests I think ;-)
Well I´ve send a mail to Eastman yesterday and I´ve recieved today a answer. The answer is pretty simple and clear. They wrote that they don´t offer that service. And I can understand the reason pretty good, because it would cost a lot of money to alter it to my wishes. But it was worth a try. For myself I came to the determation that altering is not the answer. I Think I would be happier with a new one, or just a jacket in the right size that i´m looking for. Also someone else can be happy with mine 46 jacket when I offer it. Do you mean the classified section of ELC? I´ve heard about it and Iam going to check it out.
