Did anyone try to purchase one recently?

I have ordered my jacket in the beginning of November, was told it will be shipped November or December, than it was middle of December, now sometime in the beginning of the next year.
What is your experience with Platon ?

No experience with Platon but it seems like a small delay. I wouldn’t worry just yet.

Agree that’s nothin. Keep in mind Greeks only work 2mos (or weeks) out of the year, and we’re currently in the middle of the holiday season
Lol
No, I’m not worried per se just yet, I was just wondering if anyone else has a jacket on order or how long did it take to get one from him.

Platon had quite a reputation on another jacket forum ( Vintage Leather Jackets ) before he was banned. So now he is making jackets separate from Bill Kelso? Platon was once located in Chicago . Now he is in Greece with his own jacket company? Interesting.
HD

I remember the conspiracy theory that Platon was Andy Falzon? Assuming that was indeed bunk, Platon had, by reputation, the sort of quick temper that Andy F used to display here. One can see how that might have been a difficult mix in business.

If Platon has gone out on his own, I wonder where he's having his jackets made? It seems (much to my surprise when I hunted this out before) there's still no EU-wide obligation to advertise/label country of manufacture.

I ordered one a couple of months ago... Apparently it was ready to ship this week, but I asked that they post it in the New Year. I don't want it getting lost amid Santa's Xmas postage frenzy ;)
There have been delays, but from what I've gathered from other owners and Platon's 'passion' over the years , is that these jackets are very, very good copies of an original Dubow... Good components, hardware and the leather is nice. All for a 'song' compared to some of the other top tier jacket makers. Something well-worth looking forward too. Good luck!

Were you both able to get your jackets? I'm considering ordering from him, but I haven't been able to get in touch with him via email. I emailed couple of times in the past two weeks but got nothing in return..... crickets. Generally, not a good sign, but I'n curious given the price this is being offered at.

I ordered the russet horsehide from Platon's ebay on Oct 12 last year (I sent an email to him asking if he could make an ebay posting). Change my preference 2 weeks later and email him to see if I can still get the jackets in seal horsehide. He was a little slow to reply due to his travelling but friendly throughout the process. No communication for a while, got a message on ebay in Dec saying my package has been shipped. Received around Dec 22th. Shipping made me nervous since there wasn't international tracking but it was ok at the end. Also Platon declared the jackets as sample.

I paid $500+68 for shipping. For a new jackets I'm quite happy paying that amount. I have a real mccoys A2 I bought used around $550 from Japan for comparison. Keep in mind that my sample size is small so what follows is anecdotal. Horsehide weight of Platon's A2 seems comparable to the mccoys jackets. Both are lightweight and therefore very easy to wear daily. Stitching of the mccoys is superior, being dense and uniform throughout. Stitching on Platon's jackets is neat and straight (sound easy using a machine but imaging doing this days in days out on every area of multiple jackets) except 1 wonky stitch on the collar. I currently have a Rainbow country half belt, briefly owned an Aero A2 and I would put Platon's in similar rank for stitching quality. 1 or 2 not so perfect area but nothing wrong structurally. For the horsehide texture, on his website Platon compared his hide to Vicenza that Aero uses however I'm not sure they are the exact same. Platon's hide is a little grainy but much less compared to the prominent peppled texture of Aero vicenza. I wore Platon's jackets quite often the last few months so the hide is quite soft by now and I don't think the grain would "pop" more than this. In a way I prefer this kind of grain's appearance since the jackets look quite ordinary and matte compared to the shinki horsehide on my Rainbow country. RC's shinki looks stunning due to its being shrunken horsehide with a shiny top coat finish but attract too much attention. Another thing is that I don't believe this is the liberty hide of Bill Kelso either. Haven't handled the liberty hide directly but from what I have seen, the liberty hide ages much quicker by design.

If anyone like I can post some pics but I believe another forum member on here has recently posted a Platon's jackets in seal horsehide similar to mine.

Pics uploaded here has size limit so I only uploaded one. The rest are here: https://imgur.com/a/0fzxuLC. You can see some stitching defects on the collar in the second to last pic. Those are the only defects I can find. As mentioned earlier the horsehide is mostly smooth with a little more grains on each pocket flap (third pic from top).
Not sure which parts of the jackets to take pics honestly. Let me know if you guys want more. Sorry no fit pic. I always get uncomfortable in front of camera.

Defects? Post close-ups please... All the more authentic then ;)
My Dubow has a lot of grain, the more I'm wearing it, the more is popping out.

As you can see some wonky stitchings on the collar. As for the grain I'm happy with the current state of the jackets, but certainly the more the merrier.

Long before Bill Kelso Platon was on COW and talked about making A2's one day. Being a part time and emerging jacket maker is hard and fraught with issues.
