This started out as a 7 1/2.

I removed and resized the sweatband.
P1030637.jpg
Washed and hung to dry.
P1030639.jpg
Let it dry with a 7 1/8 belt around it.

Sewed the 7 1/8 sweatband back in.
P1040002.jpg
Pirated this hatband from another hat.

And here it is on my head.

There was no natural shrinking, at all. The belt, and sewing in the sweatband, with TWO sets of stitches pulled tight, was what it took to reduce it.

No, it wasn't my first try. The first was my Montecristi fur felt. That was a cakewalk, 7 1/4 to 7 1/8. The current subject was much harder and took several days.

Excellent job! Though this does mean there is one less size 7 1/2 hat out there, alas.:D

Great work! I liked the blue velvet-finish you showed in another thread also (fabric vs leather sweatband). Handy with a needle . . . self taught? I am basically afraid to try.

barrowjh, Yep, the needle skills were self-taught. Mistakes and risks help us learn. We just try to make the mistakes on the cheap stuff! Thanks, guys for the encouragement.
