Just saw "Double Indemnity" last night for the first time. Great film.

I think Fred MacMurray's hat is tr?© cool - I'd love to have one like it. Any ideas what it might be?

Wonderful movie, Edward G. Robinson has to be one of my all-time favourite actors, and Fred MacMurray is so wonderfully against type and he pulls it off with great aplomb. This is not out on DVD yet, to my knowledge, but the second it is, I'm getting a copy.

It seems that on any given day on TCM you can watch and see a wealth of fine looking hats. I like watching for all the different bash styles. I dont know if the movie credits would show where the hats come from or not.
Also you can see that fedoras were not worn with suits all the time.
If the movie happens to be good that makes it a double treat!

Sadly, it WAS out on dvd, but is now OOP. Paramount is terrible about their back catalogue... Maybe Warner or Universal will get a hold of Double Indemnity as they did the early Marx Bros and W. C. Fields since PAramount didn't know what to do with any of them.

Don't know about the hat, but it looks like something that could be in Art's repertoire, high crown, bound brim-edge. Maybe you should contact him.

Thanks for the pics - it certainly does look similar.

By the way - nice lid! I'll have to keep me eyes peeled for a Dunlap in my size. It is similar to the Royal Stetson I have on in my avatar, but the ribbon and brim appear to be a bit broader.

The new Double Indemnity DVD will be released on 22 August, and it's available for pre-order on amazon.com .

It's a two-disc special edition. Here are the "extras" that are promised:

DVD Features:

* Shadows of Suspense
* Audio Commentary from Film Historian Richard Schickel
* Audio Commentary with Film Historian / Screenwriter Lem Dobbs and Film Historian Nick Redman
* Double Indemnity TV Movie (1973, 75 mins.)

I suppose it's needless to say I've pre-ordered it. ;)

Glad it's being re-released. It's one of my favorite golden era "mood" movies. The dialogue is great and really sparkles, and the film is just one of those I could watch anytime. I DVR'd it a while back, but I'll be pre-ordering the DVD as well :)
