Throwing my 2 cents in. I have the SOP LA weight deviant and I love it. So much so i sold every schott and leather jacket I own.

Runs true to size and is a little shorter length for the cropped look. I wear a 40.

The horsehide is a beautiful supple teacore.

I wore a medium 519 schott. 40 cafecto.

Love my 44 Double Helix Deviant but it's a bit too short for my 6'+frame @24" so must go. After picking up a 44 TRM Nelson I've come to realize that 25" is the minimum length I need so my search continues for a Deviant like model that's longer.

Getting closer to ordering the N-1 jacket in black, and am at the point of researching what leather to choose. I'm hoping someone with more experience can offer some advice. The only leather jacket I've owned to compare it to us a Schott cowhide.

Stock is black semi-aniline tea core horsehide. They also offer full aniline, oiled wax black core horsehide, or 2.0mm shrink horsehide.

Some horsehide jackets I've seen are quite smooth and SHINY, such as the Y2 I'm posting a photo of. I'd prefer a more subtle, classic, grainy look, without so much sheen.

I'd also like to be able to wear this jacket regularly, without worrying much about moisture. I've read that full aniline is prone to staining. I wouldn't regularly wear it in the rain or snow, but if it starts raining while I'm wearing it, I don't want to feel like I need to take it off to protect it.

Can anyone recommend which finish I should choose to avoid something extremely shiny, and to be able to wear it without needing to avoid all moisture? Or even if you can't recommend which one I should get, if based on my description there is one option I definitely should not get, that would also be helpful information.

I’d recommend the OG as that’s the only one they offered for a very long time and it’s what got them a lot of love. As far as moisture resistance, I don’t know man, it’s meant to be worn outdoors, accept the use marks as they build on your jacket. The shine will definitely become more subtle over time.

I have the western cowboy two from the shop Vancouver in the Semi Aniline Tea Core Horsehide, it had a shine initially but settled in nicely after a water treatment and about 10 wears or so, also the leather really softened up by miles.
Also have the DH x snake oil Virgil G-1 in the same leather just lighter and the shine subsided after just a few wears
Never started super shiny like a Schott horsehide which was super shiny

Hmmm, Flame Panda has no problem saying where his boots are made, and no problem selling them either. Maybe time to rethink the Double Helix made in Japan false marketing, if that is indeed the case? Good (and great) stuff can be made in China. There is a big difference. Flame Panda is a Chinese...
