Dopp Kit/Toiletry Bag

Eagle Creek bag has made its match. Nylon inside is kinda tearing up. Needing something but can't decide between a dopp kit or a toiletry bag, like at LL Bean or Land's End.

Leather, I think, would not be a good call since water would get to it and I am thinking just in case something came loose or leaked, especially on an air plane.

I don't travel much, but when I do, it's mostly by auto. So $50 is about what I would like to spend

ideas?

I don't know how much space you need, but I've been contemplating this piece from Duluth Trading Co. I prefer the fire-hose material over leather for the same reasons you cited. Full disclosure, though, my ugly nylon shaving kit shows no sign of dying, so I want the fire-hose bag for my pipe and tobacco rather than toiletries.

I was thinking that the Bean one actually would not hold as much since unless it fits in a pouch, it would fall out when you hang it up

So I think it may be down to these, and if someone who travels more than me can opine, great. Worried about leakage into the interior

Duluth nylon, hanging option, probably a bit better than an LL BEan option?

Orvis hanging option, like a dopp kitt that hangs more so than the multi compartment LLBean

Two options from Etsy: Advantages are much cheaper and waxed canvas, so cheaper than a Filson, but one has plastic overlay, the second a bit nicer trim on the outside

I have an original leather Dopp kit. It is a nice design with the expanding panels on the sides. No worry about anything leaking out as it has a leakproof liner.

The problem, though, is it isn't large enough to carry what I need to carry. For the last 30 years or so, I have been using the largest heavy duty nylon "shaving kits" that I can find. I travel a lot and have never had anything leak out of one.

I actually have two of them I travel with. One for the carry on without the prohibited items and one for the check baggage that has all the other stuff.

Don't overthink this. Bigger is better; two is better than one for air travel.

I was lucky enough to find a vintage Bosca old leather Dopp kit here in the UK at a Car Boot Sale (£5.00). I’ve had to restitch part of the zipper tape to the leather but it’s still going strong. It’s pretty full with a razor, a small can of foam, toothbrush, shampoo etc. but I work on the principle that it if I can’t fit a new item in then I probably don’t need it.
I’d never have dreamed of paying full price for one of these ($250).

Bass Pro - not a great look but super big, cheap and functional. Nothing fancy, but leak proof lining. Huge as far as cubic inches, almost a third bigger than the others (495 vs 385 or so).

Two big compartments, side zip for like bandaids, medicine, toothbrush. Water proof outside and inside looks to be able to keep leakage contained.

Just ordered the bass pro one. I mean, I overthink and it was the largest, with the nylon inner, and $10.93 shipped to the house

Thanks for doing the legwork on this! One of mine was looking ratty with a broken zipper, so I ordered one as well.

And yes, you do overthink things. But in this situation, it was to my benefit.
