I have seen this style hat in original photos from the 1860s and 1870s. Usually worn by men in working attire, although one studio photo showed it worn by a young man in suit and long overcoat. This style seems to be contemporary with the wheel hat also popular in the mid 1800s. Is there a name for this style hat?...

the hat above is called a kepi and it was used from many European armies but it is not the hat that OP is talking about.

Again, this hat inquisition has many names and was used by many people around the entire world (hence the many names) in the 19th - early 20th century.

these are pictures of the Neapolitan street kids (scugnizzi) as depicted on the postcards of the time the picture

these are other so called realistic scenes showing the same street people as you see they all wore this kind of hat or rather cap.

I couldn’t find one.so I had a friend make this for me. Medium weight grey wool with a cotton lining. It is a favorite causal hat for cool weather, very comfortable.
