Does anyone still wear this summer work straw?

I ran across this and had to order me one in memory of my grandfather.

It is a sturdy straw for yard work and such [it will really take alot of abuse] and looks pretty good also. I guess this type work hat is the reason I grew to love the thin ribbon on a fedora, I was so used to seeing my grandfather use this type hat for a work hat in the summer.

It has been awhile since I had seen this type harvest hat, the local 'Mart' used to carry them but now carry the type straw that has the really wide style brim. I am not too crazy about that kind of brim.

They're sold all the time at our local farmer's co-op, and worn every summer by farmers here in South Central Tennessee. I see them all the time during warm weather here.

Used to be the same here Michaelson, Tractor Supply here used to have them. Then it got to where they had the kind that had the sun shade in the brim and now I havent seen them in a couple of years.
It was always a sign of spring here in N E Arkansas when you saw the summer work straw!
Lets all try and post a pic of us this summer in our hats if possible !

We have both the Co-Op and Tractor Supply here. In the town of Winchester they're located about 1/2 mile apart, so apparently there's enough business for both.

If you have the Co-Op, I bet you'll find one there.

I wear one of these for yard work, they really suit the summer weather here in Southeast Missouri. Just like NB, my hat has a wider brim, so I generally only use it for yard work and not much else.
If you could let us know how well the hat works for you RBH, I would appreciate it a lot.

Yes Michaelson, our local Co-Op carries straws but they are shaped like this John Deetre straw[ the hats have a plain band]. They no longer have a fedora style straw .

Thanks for the comment NRay, it has been several years since I have had this type hat. But for a 'general' run around, get caught doing a messy yard job hat. You cant beat it. It really looks nice enough that if you are out working and need to run after something you dont mind having it on.
The price isnt bad, it is along the lines of the above JD style hat and you get a pretty good looking 'fedora' style of lid.
I have a couple of panamas but I really dont wear them mowing or gardening, so this hat will be an asset to have.

I see versions of that 1st one all the time in the summer out here at the vintage car events along with Panamas and Planters straws. They're still in use.

I can tell you Max that the vented style is cooler that the regular harvest hat. The vented one I posted has the more traditional type c-crown. I am not as sure of the horseshoe crown. Maybe it does not have the pinched front like the other does. But the horseshoe crown looks to have a nice shape though, please post a photo it you get you one of these hats.

I recieved my straw from the Kidron Town and Country Store today. I really like it, the straw is alot thicker than I remember from years ago and it also has a sweat that goes all the way around the inside. Overall its a great straw for the money and I think it will hold up well for all my summer jobs, including laying around the pool!
I will try and post a pic of me wearing it later.

Michaelson, the nearest Tractor Supply to me is about 50 miles north of here. I was there today and checked them out, the only hats they had were western style hats. The western straws for the most part were pretty cheap looking.

I think all the style straws should be able to post. Although I favor the fedora style, I thinks ones that wear the western, golf hat, and other style straws should post. AS LONG AS IT IS A STRAW.

Amish Hats

Are they machine made? Thery would have to be at that price. The crown is very high but I suppose that it gives the ventilation necessary in a yard hat. I find my Panamas get pretty hot and sweaty and I have thought of putting a couple of cleats in my cheaper one.
