I haven't been on in a while- I love the new areas of the Powder Room! New to me, anyway. 
But I have something I need to ask for help identifying. A friend of mine asked me to see if anyone here knows what this is. (I could have sworn we used to have one thread for help dating items, but I didn't see it in a search.)
She said that it was her grandmother's. She believes it is from around the turn of the century, because her grandmother was born in 1920 and this was her mother's. So it might be too early for the eras the FL covers, but I wanted to ask here in case someone knows or in case, perhaps, my friend has the dates incorrect. Also, the grandmother and mother lived in upstate New York.
Materials: it seems to be crocheted cotton, she thinks, and the beads are metallic. The crocheted pieces do not open. It's too short to hang around a neck even untied. It almost seems as if the ring is there to keep the strings from tangling, but... I have a great deal of experience with late 19th century items, as well as early 20th century, and I have never seen anything like this. And I bet there are people here who have a lot more experience than I do with such things. Any ideas?
Okay, she just updated me... it might be really way too early for the Lounge, " It might have actually been my great-great grandmother's so even earlier--1890s or so. They both lived in NYC and spent their summers upstate." I think I'll ask at some Victorian places. Thank you ahead of time to anyone with any idea, though.
