Dobbs cloth

When I was in college, I worked for a very traditional men's clothing store in the Washington DC area. The owner had some shirts that he referred to as "Dobbs cloth," which, he maintained, would last forever. I bought one, and he was right, it lasted an extremely long time, only wearing out 30 years later. Do any of you sartorial savants know anything about this cloth?

You're thinking of Dobby cloth, woven on a Dobby loom which allows for a myriad of design possibilities.

This particular shirt had a label inside that said "Dobbs cloth." I once saw a shirt at Nordstrom with the same label. The only single thing I found about "dobbs cloth" from a google search on the internet was from a 1960's newspaper, (presumably from an advertisement.)
