I've got the BraveStar 21 oz and can vouch that it is a well made BEAST.

Brave Star 21oz selvedge is the best bang for buck.
Agreed.
Someone like Ciano Farmer can make you a really nice denim jacket with a lot of options and extras to choose from if you have the money and the patience (not once have I received my order when it was promised). At the end of the day you will probably be just as happy with a Brave Star off the rack.

Highest quality is subjective to what you consider quality personally, be it denim weight and construction, durability, design, period accuracy reproduction, etc. Anything above 15oz denim will be quite hard wearing.

The top brands are all mostly in the same level as they’re somewhat niche.
Check the online retailers Okayama denim or Denimio for Japanese brands. Iron Heart is of course a top tier as well.
For US brands check Railcar Fine Goods, Rogue Territory, or Freenote Clothing.

Another more affordable brand to really consider is Unbranded, an off-shoot of Canadian denim heavy weights Naked and Famous. Their denim jacket is top quality and much cheaper.

I personally really like the Spanish brand Companion Denim, a boutique style quality denim brand with really cool stuff.

I have some Unbranded 21oz jeans (not a jacket though) and they are excellent. Construction is top notch and the denim itself is slubby and characterful.

Some great insights shared on this thread. Bravestar is very economical, they have solid denim but the craftmanship/stitching in my opinion is below many others. That being said I own 3 pairs of their jeans. I have a Ciano Farmer 1968 Cone Mills Denim Jacket, the price was very high and the wait was very long but the quality is the best I have owned. I own a Ship John broken twill denim jacket and love it, wear the heck out of it. Oni has some great denim as well.

I'll throw my hat in the ring. I have a TCB 40's Type 1 Jacket. The denim is nice and neppy (more so than any any textile I've gotten from momtaro/oni/samurai). Been meaning to actually slice off the chest expanding stitches for a more boxy fit...

I have had two pairs of oni jeans (Crushed Concrete and Kiraku) over the years and had the pleasure of trying on their secret denim version of their jackets. If they made it in a type 1 version I would've jumped on it in a heart beat.

I’ve done a lot of research into denim jackets, seen them in person and tried them on. I’ve been most impressed with Iron Heart 21oz. Despite its weight, it’s buttery soft!
