Death of the Little Black Book?

I get it. My little black book is a moleskine. I'm happily married happily but like to keep phone no.s on a hard copy. Blackberry's and such have no soul compared to the hand written note. Writing it down on a bus or train you can see the effect it has on the script and recalls the moment. Hip or hep is much cooler than tech.

" I was looking through my book and saw your name and thought I'd call you and see if you'd like to grab a drink?" Not quite Golden Era but from the 80s on, and like reetpleet said they were looking for a date. Yes, many nice memories.

Occasionally I've had an address book (need to sort one out now), but never a 'little black book.' Too much of a square for that, I'm afraid.

I keep most of my phone list info in the computer, which syncs daily to my laptop and whenever I feel the need - on the cell phone. I've also got it in my iPod, plus there are printouts are in both my organizers.

But I do keep a small "little blue book" in my card case with really important numbers should I need to call someone and I'm out without one of the above. People like a few elderly relatives who'll fret and fume if there's an earthquake or similar disaster and the phones are out up here, doctors, attorney, 24 hour line at the company that prints the paper I edit, plus I've also got bogus listings which are really encoded info that nobody else would know are really for calling the banks, credit cards & such should my wallet be lifted.

Yup, I still have a little black book, although since I am now very happily married, the numbers that get the most use are a different demographic from what they once were. I have no cell phone as I don't care to be at everyone's beck and call when I am away from a land-line, and my PDA is a 1937 Parker fountain pen and a small blue Moleskine notebook (never leave home without 'em).

The LBB is digital now. But the need to have your numbers with you at all times is still there.

I do carry a pad around to jot things down on. I always want to remember a shop name I pass or something like that. Sometimes you dont have enough time to do it with a camera phone.

Agreed on those points. The little black book is updated as a digital device. Not sure if it is better or not but the choice to carry a pencil and pad is still there.

Of course not, but it's like saying that there is no difference between reading and writing a handwritten letter versus an email. But it's subjective. Just stating what's true for me.

But then again, vintage pens and old paper can have more history in it than pixels.

Its masterful, but its just an instrument. The soul comes from the user in whatever instrument that person chooses.

Bear in mind, iPhones still have an Achilles' heel: batteries, which in my experience with all things electrical always pick the least convenient possible time to die. Pencil or pen and paper can't be mucked up by battery failure...
